Doreen a Cork st resident has issued a plea to help save 6 trees on her road which may be demolished today. She just came on liveline to ask for help. She and a neighbour have spent the morning blocking a bulldozer from knocking the trees. |

Now the Party Political Spin Doctors who as additional activity to their work for the Daíl Eirinn bunch at Leinster House are on holidays at the moment.
(paid)
So I'll do my best to help you with your "plea" and campaign.
We in Indymedia have done lots to help trees.
in Dublin.
in Galway.
and now
SAVE THE CORK ST. TREES (6)
if you want to avoid the climbing up into the trees and doing an occupational protest, you could always lock yourself to a lower branch or the trunk.
Otherwise you may refer your "Plea" to the global tree-saving list.
They work on saving trees from O'Connell St. to Brazil.
Your message may await moderator's approval though for a little while till it's checked.
Then a lobby will be organised.
What is the relevancy of this graphic?
a picture of the new dept environment adviser on the preservation of high rise buildings. he has a novel plan for dealing with liberty hall (hopefully while its full of bureaucrats).
he also has responsibility for trees.
As those of the tree saving list know, Ray, saving trees isn't always just a concrete materialist matter, it has a spiritual dimension too, and as such is open to good good vibes (those that make you hug trees) and bad evil vibes (those that generated the graphic and his spectre above).
The evil bad vibes help get Agent Orange (nothing to do with Drumcree or The Garvaghy Road on another contentshuz thread) dropped on Afghanistan.
Very bad for trees.
Osama Bin Laden signed a petition to save the Eyre Square Trees of Galway. in early February. reported in local press.
didn't you forget Ray?
go on ask me what the relevance of this graphic is. I dare you.
Osama signd the petition.
Who would pretend to be such a man?
This is now one of those "icons" yet we know very little about the origin of the face.
Anytakers?
Where on Cork St.
Any plan for tomorrow (thursday) ?
Anyone gonna build tunnels?
@ which tree do we stop.
Please tell us which Cork Street you are referring to. The article does not specify the town or city. There are many Cork Streets around the country. There's even a Cork Street in London!
What is the relevance of that graphic? (a campaign to save trees in China?) Is it really necessary to illustrate the original story or your comment on it?
Cork St is in Dublin 8.
it runs from the Coombe to near St. Patrick's Cathedral. It has been tree-less since the 1970s.
=There are no trees to save on Cork St.
the now edited picture was of Osama.
he signed a petition to save trees which do exist in Eyre Sq, it is arguable whether or not he exists. The following so far non edited picture is of a group which call themselves "emergency protest" in Japan, they exist, and are in the photo protesting a development that exists, which was threatening Trees which _still_ exist.
I humbly suggest Doreen may not exist either.
But I know:
Ray exists, and irrelevance gets edited off the newswire leaving truthful stories behind.
bit like this:
( all of SF were in Tyrone that day)
[=out of the country yes. out of earshot/sight/sniffing no.]
-
until then everything is relevant.
but according to the inital story Doreen was on Liveline yesterday, which, if it can be confirmed, would be good proof of her existence.
Presumably, if its not all just a windup, the trees are on one of the many sidestreets just off Cork St.
Your fucking sniggering pseudo intellectual holistic sniggering to yourself prententious posts have polluted and twisting more threads than Pat C and Magneto.
Quit your sniggering "aren't I well read", quasi intelligent posts to a minimum and quit this delusion that no thread is complete without one of your oh so fucking witty insights.
not alone @ all. Now verifying Cork Street and it's trees.

doreen "just came on liveline at about 14h27 yesterday.
contact liveline (let's presume it's Dublin thus RTE).

gives you the show for yesterday.
now with all the "péplé" radio wireless list people about even King Mob can verify Doreen's story.
derek was at Paris fish market, and looking at the prices of irish fishermen's produce. online was a fisherman. having problems with haddock.
................................
haddock is a beautiful flavoursome fish...
do the housewives of Ireland know about I wonder?
20cents a fish.
we don't know what they pay the middle man for tha fish.
someone in the liveine office told me about a wonderful meal where he had a piece of farmed Sea bask hake, and the meal cost 24 euro, hang on a moment the whle fish sure that fish probably only cost the restaurant four or five euro...where did the rest of it come from.
............RTE is a state maintianed broadcaster.........................well Derek all I know is you can buy a fillet of chicken for one euro in the supermarket. It's produced cheaply and sold cheaply......at the moment fish is being produced cheaply and sold expensively.........[I wonder about the fisherwives, as I explore the psychoapthology of the post above]......(Derek) it's landed cheap but it sells dear..........(fisherman)just before I finish up..I know my fish, I do it for a living, I won't name any restaurants but I've gont to restaurants time and time again, I've been sold pollock for cod [the indignation]
I would just like to know if restaurants to turn this around, would they sell lamb for beef, beef for lamb?
Derek adds
"ah there always be hooks and crooks".....
......[great stuff this RTE]......do you remember when monkfish was a throwaway catch?
...I remember when it was 1 euro 40 a kilo for cod. that fluctuation that we see the housewife would never see it.
04.45min
Derek intros other caller. male. Tony who just last Sunday morning went into a shop in Ballsbridge...and purchased two 500ml bottles of Lucozade, and he was asked for Four Euro and Ten Cents!!! [much indignation and some small part bitterness]...........
37 minutes in
"i can tell you it would effect me if someone smokes, you've got to recognise that people who are smokers are addicted and you can't infringe the human rights of those who work in these places............angela (smoker) in 2002 at her local hairdressers brought in a law to stop smoking, she can0t get her hair cut,
"I jsut won't go" "There is no city in europe i've benn in where there is a total ban on smiking, why would you come to ireland if you know there would be a ban on smoking".

Derek moves from
Cork Alliance for Civil Liberties on smoking rights to Douglas.
(like really Pat)
Douglas is english he invested lots in his holidays in west mayo fishing territory, they left the ferry and tought to stay more than a few weeks, bit concerend about the euro, reports that ireland was twelve times more expensive than the rest of europe, they changed their monoey on "thta" side of the feery, poor douglas every year he comes it is dearer every year.
his holiday last gone cost two and half sterling.
Derek asks did he stay in a five star hotel.
Liam online, returns to prices.
"a glass of milk in the average restaurant or hotel costs approx one to two euros"....
derek says you want get a half pint of water for a euro.
liam [not to be assuaged] retorts "except you won't get a halp pint of water in a hotel, now that costs about three euros a pint...."
liam returns there's eight pints to a gallon which means there is 24 euros a gallon, the price the average farmer gets for his milk is one thirty five [pronounced thrrrrrtiiii]euro a gallon.......
derek thinks he is underestimating the price of a glass of milk in a hotel.........
[they go on.............your tax]
[oh sure milk has to pastuerised and packaged, sure there is a percentage in that a profit...]
Derek moves to Bill.
Bill has a story with two week holiday in Alicante wife two children two children's friends.
great holiday.
very expensive.bad time with Chinese Food.
Derek moves to.final caller english male.
=NO DOREEN.
in your head!
.
If the whole story is fake, then surely we should delete the whole thing, rather than add new images?
21ST MINUTE 3RD SECOND.
Doreen comes on air.
this is what she says:
"I'm just in Cork St. in the centre of Dublin, and the only trees in Cork st. are about to be destroyed, they will demolish them in fifteen minutes, only going on for last hour.
(she's stopping bulldozers, sitting infront of the bulldozer, nearly being arrestsed, Duyblin Copr sold the site.)
sorry everyone.
yesterday at the 21º minute of the Liveline Show Doreen of Cork street made a plea.
It might have seemed unlikely, but it was true, as Derek said @ 23º minute of the show "this story will run and run".
At the moment there is no contact number for Doreen, the PR person at RTE Liveine though has been contacted, and as soon as poss, we will all know what is happening.
Yesterday Doreen and her neighbour bravely sat on the ground in front of a bulldozer, defying arrest by Gardaí Siochana and defiantly protected the last six trees of Cork St.
Cork St, is in Dublin 8.
Doreen claims the trees need not be destroyed as they do not in any way prevent the urbna regeneration project which though it may include affordable housing is on a site purchased from Dublin Corporation and shall included expensive private housing as well.
to listen to Doreen go to

Doreen has contacted her local TDs.
they are:
Aengus O Snodaigh

Michael Mulcahy
Séan Ardagh.
Labour Party Deputy for Dublin Central, Joe Costello might be one to call.
He is a "treefriendly" rep. He tabled last a year he tabled an emergency motion to the Central Area Committee of Dublin City Council calling for a suspension of the felling of trees on O'Connell Street.
Also you must check your trees are "registered".
Tomas Bell is the man at Dublin Corp he will be able to tell you the age/girth and worth of your six trees.

(in the absence of partypolitical spindocters though your local TDs be from FF,Lab,FG and SF, it falls to a humbled anarko-gobshite two and half hours by plane from the Liberties to help you in your plea.)
On Saturday, Mar 8 2003, 5:52pm King Mob wrote:

and Seanín that same day wrote

Best of luck to all concerned. I think we're all agreed on trees. :-)
Doreen Don't Panic.
Indymedia is awash with those who will help you.
will tell you about "tree-planting" which is something "guerilla gardeners" like those in the photograph above, would only be too happy to do on your Street, if those six trees are lost.
read this article and contact known tree hugger and propogator: Niall O Brolchain - GEA
phone: 091-596680 [email protected].

Now make your campaign "global", good news is, your campaign is _already_ "global", ever since the anarko-gobshite iosaf started hassling liveline last night for verification your story has gone sort of global and is now cookie traced along with photographs of Osama and Japan's ·"Emergency Protesters"·
So using that sweet dulcet voice which occupies 21º-23ºminutes of RTE's liveline 9/7 2003, contact "Nature Org".
http://nature.org/ is the home site of the largest ecological friendly private organisation in the world. They do trees. They do dolphins. They do ecosystems. They do aquaculture. They do forests. rainforests and bonsai. It lives they do it. And they make money from it.
Believe or not they'll offer you advise on saving your local trees.
http://www.unops.org/web_forms/welcome.htm
Is the place you can apply for the United Nations to get involved.
{don't panic Doreen this is just offbeat humour}
Now it may be wise to consider "prioritising" your trees.
Would it be ok if only say three trees were left?
Would you like "comprimise" on the contentious issue?
My advice is open on saving all the trees.
then make a surprise move to saying "You can have that one". [now this is controversial but some protesters might actually in a mock deforestation action, chop down one of your trees, (won't be so illegal since they're doing it anyway sort of thinking) and video /audio tape it for not only us in IMC land but Tg4 as well, coz Seánin will go along and "abair é"].
(we are all agreed on trees).
meanwhile till the politicians come back from the hols, go through their websites for contact details of like your representatives.

we can help Doreen.
we always could.
We didn't need confirmation of the story.
we knew in our hearts.
They're cutting down all the trees.
¿@ which fish shall we say stop?
listen to this audio file:
http://www.rte.ie/radio/liveline/index.html
@ 21'05º a woman calling herself "Doreen" claims she has nearly been _arrested_ for a grassroots and branch action protecting the inner city enviroment.
Listen to the file.
It is an intermediate level of diffculty for foreign learners of English. It is a fairly typical Irish State funded reflection on the "price of things" and as such is an accurate protrayel of internalised capitalist and materialist values.
If you don't go to Ireland this year, if you don't hear English spoken with an Irish accent this year, listen to this file:
http://www.rte.ie/radio/liveline/index.html
@23'10º the man Derek Mooney assures the public the story will run and run....
-I accuse RTE of faking this story.
-I accuse RTE of riduculing protesters, tree saving and the residents of Dublin's Cork Street.
Neither RTE nor the Gardaí Siochanna or Dublin Corporation have confirmed this story.
HOW OFTEN HAS LIVELINE FABRICATED IT's CALLERS?

between 21º and 23º minutes of the Liveline show broadcast on Wednesday 9th of July.
Derek Mooney speaks to a woman calling herself "Doreen" who claims to have nearly been arrested for defending a tree in an inner
city area of Dublin.
I suggest this phone in was faked.
As a tree-protester, and one involved in inner city development issues accross the European Union, I am shocked that a low brow program aimed at Ireland's homemakers, filled with internalised
capitalist values "sure that's two euro twenty a piece...do the housewives of Ireland know about this I wonder".
I am minded to quote W.B. Yeats
"Adding pence to pound".
I await confirmation of my suspicions.
Meanwhile I shall encourage as many people as I know to contact your Irish and northern Irish phone line numbers with untruthful stories
and inaccurate prices.
It is no laughing matter that several protesters in Ireland are facing outstanding charges arising from the campaign to uphold the Irish Constitution's neutrality and stop Shannon being used by the USAF.
It is also no laughing matter that cork St, and many other inner Dublin streets are bereft of trees.
I await your correspondance.
as do other readers.

"this story will run and run"
: Derek @ 23'09º of the tape of shame.
***********************************************
i suggest other psychologically complex people do the same. I apologise for implying that Pat C. fabricated this story, but then the idea that it could have been fabricated by the Irish State broadcaster was too terrible a thought for me to bear. Yesterday I scanned the "tape of Shame", the word "Cork" is uttered twelve times in total.
This word is clustered at 24' of the "tape of Shame", (an piece on Corkonian smoker's rights).
What is Ireland coming too, when this sort of institutionalised sexism and mendacious mealymouthed price pinching and ignorance of real issues is allowed to go unchecked and unchallenged.
Derek you are a LIAR!
