Tá Mary Kelly saor go fóill!

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Saturday July 05, 2003 11:45author by Justin Morahan - Peace People Report this post to the editors

Shiúil sí saor as an chúirt i gCill Rúisc, Co an Chláir san oíche Déardaoin ach tá seans ann fós go dtógfar os comhair cúirte arís í amach anseo.
D'admhaigh Mary go ndearna sí damáiste d'eitleán de chuid US Navy chun stop a chur leis an gcogadh i gcoinne na hIoráice. Labhair sí sa chúirt go ciúin, go réidh agus go huasal agus chuir sí tocht ar gach duine a chuala í.
Dúirt an giúistís, áfach, nach féidir áird ar bit a thabhairt ar an fínnithe a albhair ar a son. In aimheoin sin, ni rabhthas in ann tromlacht 10-2 a fháil ina haghaidh.
Bua mór ar son na síochána.
Go raibh maith agat, a Mháire!

In summary the message says that Mary Kelly walked free on Thursday night last from Kilrush court but may be charged again by the DPP.
She admitted that she had damaged the US Navy plane and impressed everyone by her dignified and honest presentation of her defence - she did it to save people's lives in Iraq.
I think she would have been acquitted only for the judge's remarks to the jury that they were to discount the evidence of all four defence witnesses - also her own plea of a just cause.
(To the person above who seems to have taken offence at a news item appearing in Irish, remember that some people do have Irish as their first language and they don't object to English postings. The news appears in several other postings in English. Also, Mary Kelly would not object to the news being published for native Irish speakers in Irish and some Irish people living abroad have specifically asked for news through the medium of Irish. I wrote it for them, next time if it offends you skip it and read the English versions. )

now the parish is many of the Irish people resident not only on the island, but listeners to Radio Eirinn as well, if I were to whisper in that ear i would be sure of a byte or two out the other end, but what of the less ·high· profile protesters?
If Mary may be acquited of causing the most damage in terms of $ value, then it seems very unfair, very very unfair if anyone is imprisoned for charges arising from the protests in Ireland against the then widely beleived to be illegal and unconstitutional use of the USAF to invade and lest we forget in that time illegally occupy Iraq.

Time may past, law may change, but what is fair is fair.

Oh dear mcdiarmada, on the old nostalgia trip are we rehashing the stuff they crammed into your skull in coláiste mhuire .....

Well I detect a misplaced "síne fada" ...

"cogar" NOT "cógar" .....

200 lines as a punishment ........
or have your naked buttocks whipped by a demented christian brother .....

My eyes must be getting very bad .....

There are at least two more misplaced accents in your botched attempt at the ould coopla fuckle .....

"inseoidh Máire dó phóbal é."

Shouldn't that be:
"inseoidh Máire don phobal é."

"don" NOT "dó"
and
"phobal" NOT "phóbal"

Is é mo thuairim nach fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste ...

We'll send that christian brother out to B'arse-a-lona to whip your ass .....

Hey! School around the corner..

Tá dearcadh cóilíneach agat le haghaidh teanga do thír féin, mar a bhí ag na Bráithre freisin. Sa ré Domhandach seo tá fiúntas an Ghaeilge níos soiléire do níos mó daoine in aghaidh an lae.

Dean do dhícheall chun dearmad a dhéanamh ar an oideachas cóilíneach a bhfuair tú ar scoil agus tar ar ais don Ghaeilge le meoin glan.

Ná bí ag cáineadh daoine eile ó thaobh grámadaí a thuilleadh mar is é an iompar sin a mhaireann ár dteanga binn blasta.

Maith thú Justin!

An scoil thart ar a choirneáil má tá tú ag iarraidh cuidiú le daoine Gaeilge ceart (ó thaobh litriú & gramadaí) a úsáid is rud maith sin, ach ní chóir daoine a chuir síos d'iarracht a dhéanamh an Ghaeilge a úsáid.
School around the corner if your trying to help people improve their level of Irish, I see that as a good thing, but you don´t have to put people down or be patronising about it, especially when people are going to the effort to use Irish.

Tiocfaidh feabhas ar a gcuid mar a léann siad, mar sin de, ceann de na dóigheanna is fearr chun cuidiú le daoine feabhas a chuir ar a gcuid Gaeilge ná altanna a scríobh ina bhfuil an ghramadach ceartaithe.
Their Irish will improve with reading, therefore the best way to help people with their Irish is to write articles with proper grammar.

Maith sibh go léir as an iarracht.
Coinnigh leis.
Fair play to all of you for making the effort.
Keep at it.

Nó an Seáinín eile é .........?

Or do we perhaps have an extreme case of schizoid dual identity triggered by his poor wee brain trying to toggle between two languages, one being the aboriginal tongue of the true Gael, the other being the colonially imposed language of the Anglo-Saxon master race and the preferred mode of expression of the Dublin 4 bourgeoisie ........ ?

DOIBH SIÚD NACH DTUIGEANN: CUID A HAON
Bunús na nGael

Ar dtús bhí an focal ann agus an duine, agus thug an duine focal mar ainm ar an spéir, ar an
talamh, agus ar an uile ní.

D'éirigh an duine agus thug sé a aghaidh soir ar éirí na gréine. Lena lámh dheas bhí an talamh ó dheas,
ar a dtug sé an deisceart; lena lámh chlé, nó an tuatal, bhí an talamh ó thuaidh, ar a dtug sé an
tuaisceart; agus taobh thiar de bhí an talamh thiar, ar a dtug sé an t-iarthar. Is mar sin a bhaist sé na
ceithre harda.

Mhair an duine ar an talamh agus leath a mhuintir amach sna ceithre harda, ansin tháinig an Díle agus
d'éirigh an mhuir os cionn na talún. Ba bheag a tháinig slán. Duine acu sin ba ea Naois. Rinne Naois bád
dá chlann féin agus mhaireadar os cionn uisce. Duine eile a tháinig slán ón Díle ba ea Finnéigeas.
Chuaigh seisean i riocht bradáin faoin uisce gur thráigh an Díle.

Tar éis na Díleann chuir sliocht Naoise fúthu san Éigipt. Duine díbh sin ba ea Féinneas. Aige siúd
amháin a bhí teangacha na náisiún uile. Ba é mac a mhic, Gael Glas, a chum an teanga Ghaeilge. Sin a
bhíonn i gceist againn nuair a deir muid gurb í ár dteanga an teanga is sine ar domhan, mar gur as an dá
theanga is seachtó a bhí ann roimh aimsir na Díleann a cumadh an Ghaeilge.

Thug Gael Glas leis a mhuintir as an Éigipt soir go Tír na Sorchaí agus as sin ó thuaidh go Muir Chaisp.
Mhaireadar ansin ar feadh seacht mbliana sular thugadar a n-aghaidh siar arís thar an Meánmhuir.

Sa Spáinn a chuireadar i dtír. Breon an t-ainm a bhí ar rí na nGael an uair úd. Ghabhadar an Spáinn,
agus thóg Breon túr ard ann chun go bhfaighfeadh sé amharc ar chríocha an domhain.

Ón túr sin scrúdaigh sé na tíortha mórthimpeall: an Afraic, an Iodáil, an Fhrainc, agus críocha an
domhain mhóir, agus d'ainmnigh sé iad uile. Ansin san oiche scrúdaigh sé na reanna neimhe: na réalta
agus na plainéid agus na coiméid, agus thug sé ainmneacha orthu siúd freisin.

Míl Easpáine a bhí ina rí ar na Gaeil sa Spáinn an uair úd. Máirnéalach agus gaiscíoch a bhí ann. Sheol
sé ar fud na Meánmhara agus chuir sé mórán de chiníocha an domhain faoina chois. Saolaíodh beirt
mhac is tríocha dó a thuil cáil mar ghaiscígh cosúil lena n-athair. Clanna Míle a tugadh orthu.

Maidin gheimhridh in airde i dtúr Bhreoin, chonaic Íoth mac Bhreoin oileán siar amach san Aigéan.
Chuir Íoth agus a chuid deartháireacha chun farraige agus tháinig siad i dtír i Loch Feabhail in Éirinn.
Tuatha Dé Danann a bhí ina gcónaí sa tír an t-am sin. Mharaíodar Íoth go fealltach agus thug a
dheartháireacha a chorp abhaile leo.

Nuair a shroich deartháireacha Íotha an Spáinn bhí Míl básaithe. D'insíodar a scéal do Chlanna Míle
agus thugadar tuairisc dóibh ar an oileán ina raibh siad, agus bheartaigh siad féin agus Clanna Míle
seoladh go hÉirinn.
