UCD turns Fascist?

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday May 10, 2002 18:04author by shane Report this post to the editors

aonghus must die!

i was shocked and appalled to hear that fuckhead Aonghus Hourihane;President of UCD students union, attack the rights of students to protest, and condone the garda violence as necessary. i am a student of UCD and as i recall the turnout that re-elected this proto-fascist FF hack was at least under 15% (maybe someone knows exactly). i didnt vote because i dont recognise the so-called SU, but what mandate does he have to speak on behalf of the 8,000 UCD students, a lot of whom attended the marches? he only speaks for the future arse licking-political class of belfield which make a point of voting FF or FG because daddy at home on the ranch said its good for the farmers. things must be really bad when a students union anywhere in the world attacks the right of its members to protest against tyranny.
at least in Holland they know how to deal with the fascists, (assassins for hire ...anyone?)

P.S, great to see trinity SU with banners blazing, at least they represent their people truthfully.

Totally agree with what you're saying here, typical SU bullshit, but c'mon man, there is no need to be so "lets go kill aonghus", that assasin joke isn't too appropriate either, look at all the innocent activists assasinated worldwide every year, maybe think before you go spouting off next time?
peace*

"at least in Holland they know how to deal with the fascists, (assassins for hire ...anyone?)"

And this makes you better how, precisely?

author by clintonpublication date Fri May 10, 2002 18:45author address author phone Report this post to the editors

a/ the election turn out was 10%, but this was due to many external factors, not just hatred of the SU
b/ how can anyone not recognise the SU? Where will you go when you need past papers for your exams etc?
c/ there are 19,000 students in UCD, not 8,000
d/ the joke about Holland is bang out of order and really shows the maturity and brain power of many so called activists

author by Davepublication date Fri May 10, 2002 21:00author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Noboy should be murdered. In Holland was a disgrace as well in Itialy was bang out of order.

We are better than these Hitler fans. We are right we are just. Nobody is going to take them for real if we ignore them because I'm not loosing sleep over it they are stupid and as Darwin says there genes are going to die with them.

Only the left will surive.

I may be mistake but I thought I read something that Hourihane may have cheated to become head of the student union????

I'd like to hear more about this alleged rigged election. Where did you hear about that? Grapevine or reliable sources??

author by red dubpublication date Fri May 10, 2002 22:52author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The election had to be re run cos the head of sport came out and said that we should vote aongus cos he promised to build a 50m pool ( a recurring theme with FFers). The college as an institution cannot stake sides on SU issues, so election was re run.

He is rumoured to be under investigation for sexual harassement/assault.

He has consistently sided with big brother over students. This is the lates example.

He failed to get a motion through a referendum and guess what, has to run it again cos the 'students didnt understand the issue'.Next up is dissafiliation from USI, part of a concerted FF attack on anything with the word union in it.

sure he's a complete arse, but "street justice" is hardly the answer! if people in ucd didn't want him to be re-elected then they should have voted for DF, the other main candidate for the position. given that they didn't is a pity, as was the low turn out and all the messing about by various societies and the staff around and during the election, but it's done.

(and as far as the rumour goes, one of the university newspapers was about to report on the a & the girl story on the same day as the postponed election was held however they weren't allowed to print it, and that story's been kept quiet ever since, presumably for legal reasons.)

I notice that Aonghus(sp?) failed to mention that his Dad's a guard at home in Tipperary...

Why doesn't that surprise me. How did he manage to stop the publication of a newspaper, seems to me he SU have a lot more power than they let us think!

author by Fanaticpublication date Sat May 11, 2002 14:25author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Why is that every individual I have spoken to denies having voted for him, yet he still got back in. Where were all DF's supoorters that day.

author by UCD studentpublication date Sat May 11, 2002 23:43author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I agree, his comments were a disgrace.
Does anyone know if it would be possible to boot him out of office. If we got enough signatures or something?? I'm pretty sure he wasnt speaking for many students in the comments he made and I know some people are really angry. Maybe there's an official way to get him out.

yeah, interested in last post, this jackboot cannot be allowed to get away with it. i was under the false assumption that UCD was always more left than trinity, but the support of the Trrinity SU, was exemplary. thw hole existence of the SU has been called into question recently, a majority of students do not want automatic membership, i know i dont. the SU does not represent students, the SU represents apprentice politicians, arse-lickers and sleebheens. there is a lot of dirt on Hourihane, (and his predecessor king of the Hacks 0'lionnain)maybe we could compile it. by the way whatever happened to the C.U.N.T.S movement in UCD, after the soiled matress thing i never heard from it again.

yeah-i sure dont enjoy far right dominance in ucd,or having that guy represent me,but howevermuch you disagree with him(and believe me i do!)allegations and the personal shit shouldnt be put over an open network

on a scale:

stupidness: 10
helpfulness: 0

lets fight the right(wrong)with words, not bullets.

careful not to take the "anti" off of that anl banner

we all believe in feedom of speech - thats why were on indymedia.ie not independent.ie -let aonghus rant, but do somethin productive about it.-i wrote a letter to the independent (however productive that is?) dont just write unsigned crapology
