Naked protest (the swp/sp wont like this, its not serious enough comrades, join da party)

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday April 09, 2003 18:20author by east of watford Report this post to the editors

SIX women stripped naked at a protest against the invasion of Iraq outside Britain's military headquarters in Northwood on Sunday, April 6.

The nude demonstration occurred halfway through a protest by 170 people at the Permanent Joint Headquarters of the British Armed Forces in Sandy Lane.

Earlier in the day, five people four men and one woman were arrested at the protest for obstructing the highway and were held in custody at Watford police station.

They are due to appear at Watford Magistrates Court on Thursday, April 10.

Anti-war group, Voices in the Wilderness UK, which organised the event, said the display was demonstrating against "naked aggression" by British and United States forces in Iraq.

"The protest group was being detained unlawfully and they were basically drawing attention to the fact that this was a peaceful demonstration," a spokesman said.

Surely these protests are just opportunity for SWP beardos to see 'real live naked women' without paying for it?

Stupid Ted is quiet wrong as you would expect from a male chauvinist. These sisters are using their bodies to fight male oppression and war. I would not expect patriarchial socialist parties such as the socialist workers and the socialist party to understand this. these parties are part of the problem not part of the solution.

What if kids are watching? It's ok if its mummsie type women, or grannies, but should gorgeous young women be stripping naked, come on now, youse don't want to give socialists a heart attack.

A previous comment begs a question (or two):

"these parties are part of the problem not part of the solution"

Question being, what parties ARE part of the solution?

And how does the average consumer avoid being part of the problem?

And no, I'm not taking the piss, this is a serious question.
I try to think, before buying food or clothes, of where the money is going to end up. If I followed everything closely enough, I'd get very depressed.

In theory, anyone who ever paid for a Beatles record, has helped to support the Entertainment-Military-Industrial complex that big multinationals like Thorn EMI are part of.

In theory, every time a car owner pays for a few litres, they are supporting the petrochemical industry.

Not a car owner but you take the bus every day? Tough, you're part of the problem too - most of the fare ends up being spent on fuel. Part of your bus fare ends up being paid to Halliburton (a very small part, granted, but in theory, that makes you part of the problem).

So if there are simple things that we could all be doing, let us know!

Typical anti women invective from the last 3 or 4 posts . Womens bodies are theirs to do with as they please, that includes protesting against males and their wars, it is having at least as impact as the party paper selling and mindless slogans on the recent ineffectual marches over the past couple of weeks.

The thought of bald ,fat ,tattoed lezzers stripping off in public.Yuch!maybe we could borrow them and send them off in front of the colation forces. The sight of them should make the extra special republican gaurd surrender or run in fear.

And stupidity and aggression aren't confined confined to men (although they've done a good job on this thread of making themselves look like that) as demonstrated by Thatcher, Perron etc. (and Chekhov's example).

Note I use the word "men" very loosely to describe the infants that have contributed disparaging comments about lesbians.

i think it is fair to say that we do still live in an extremely patriarchal society, and that if we were more open to feminine nature it would be a much less war-ravaged and polluted planet. BUT then again, maybe moving towards sexual equality, instead of taking men out of war, is just putting women in.
I dont know: women give birth, men blow up maternity hospitals -cant be that simple. Lots of women in the armed forces now, so much for equality in the workplace.
But then again..
Murders -predominantly male
Suicide -predominantly male
sexual assault and rape -almost exclusively male
violent physical assault -again a predominantly male problem, as is criminality in general.
Maybe we shold consider the possibility that men have serious problems dealing with civilised life and that War is really a male thing.
I am a man by the way, (just wanted to avert any offended macho rantings calling me a flat-chested lezzer (sic) )

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A federal court judge has barred the State of Florida from trying to block plans by a group of women to gather in a state park, strip nude and form a peace symbol with their bodies in protest of a U.S. war on Iraq.

U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks wrote an eleven-page order stating that "nude overtly political speech in the form of a 'living nude peace symbol' is expressive conduct well within the ambit of the First Amendment."

Middlebrooks also ruled, however, that the state could erect signs to notify the public that the protest would be taking place, or it could put screens around the demonstrators.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida went to court in defense of a naturist and a videographer who planned to record the event.

The demonstration is taking place this morning at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park on Singer Island, north of West Palm Beach.
