Five Years On, the UK Refuses to Learn the Lessons of the Covid Catastrophe Sat Mar 08, 2025 17:00 | Will Jones
In America, Prof Jay Bhattacharya, the lockdown sceptic once derided by NIH chief Francis Collins as a "fringe epidemiologist", is about to take over as NIH head in truly sweet karma. But the UK is still mired in denial.

If Ant?nio Guterres Can?t Get Basic Facts Right, Why Should We Believe the UN on Anything? Sat Mar 08, 2025 09:00 | Chris Morrison
Last year UN chief Antonio Guterres visited Samoa and filmed a deserted house that he claimed was abandoned due to climate change. In fact it was the tsunami. This is not the first time Guterres has misinformed the public.

that placid Belgium is considered a no-go area for the Shirker-Bee this week, due to the risk of forceful expressions of displeasure, whereas a jaunt to the Republic of Ireland can be safely considered, is an elegant statement by British Imperialism on the controlled and blinded state of the public in this country.
I can already see the sea of little plastic Butcher´s Aprons lining the streets of Dublin, as the heirs of Pearse and Connolly welcome home their conquering heroine.
Obviously, history has a robust sense of irony.
What we see from Killjoy king is pure jealousy, because his kind weren't invited. Gerry Adams did miss the photo opportunity with Bush and other sycophants, who wants to be pictured with Bush &co? Gerry has important buisness to talk to Bush about including the fate of the Colombia 3. I think it's great that he goes to such functions, if just to piss off snobby unionists and long streak of piss Hugh odd bored.
Swapping drinks with Bush is what exactly!
Hyrocrites, and users, the lot of yee
My credentials are impecable too, I have many jobs, nothing that I can declare to the dole though.
Yes, Colm. I work for a living, my credentials are solid. What about yours?

Some of the above posts, referring to Car bombing the Queen should be dismissed and frowned upon. They offer no political alternative and deserve no comment. Further to that point as written in my earlier post, it is up to the people to demand an end to monarchy which they will do so because of what any monarchy represents - be it the British or Spanish etc. Those arm chair generals who proclaim stupid and intimidating statements like that should stop pretending to be big men and get out more.
In relation to the North, it is a known fact that most ordinary British people don't want it anymore, as do some of the current ruling class. It's costing them a fortune and its too much hassle. Most ordinary British people would be happy to see reunification. But as such we must hold our hands out to the Protestant working class. Catholic workers have far more in common with Protestant workers than they have with Gerry Adams or Mark Durkin, likewise Protestant workers have more in common with Catholic workers than they have with David Trimble or Paisley
But if Reunification is to occur on what basis should it do so? James Connolly said it would be worthless without socialism and was completely correct.
All you have to do is look at the current state of the Republic of Ireland. High prices - Most young people cant afford insurance or a decent home - traffic congestion - exploitation of labour - huge pay rises for those at the top - while at the bottom workers suffer cutbacks and layoffs or low pay - while the top tells us to "Tighten our belts."
Following the creation of the Irish Free State life remained for many as it had done during the union with Britain. Public health was a matter for concern, unemployment was high and there was a clear divide between the rich and poor. This lasted a long time into the 2oth Century. Even in today’s century the gap between rich and poor exists and is ever growing exasperated by the so called "Celtic Tiger"
So in the words of Connolly "Let us free Ireland." But not from one British ruling class to an identical Irish ruling class, but to the people of Ireland (That’s everyone living on the Island Catholic/Protestent/Muslem/Jew). There is no point in having a United Ireland if workers are going to suffer and be laid off, with massive gains being made for the Capitalist class on the backs of the newly united Irish people.
I read Article once at the time Sinn Fein and the SDLP were trying to get Londonderry officially named Derry. At the time workers were being laid off in a local Derry factory. The main sentence resounds in my head was something along the lines of they can console themselves by claiming the dole in Derry rather than Londonderry.
Diana although having her faults did things for people. She was seen as the "Peoples Queen" by a number of people. Her actions, perhaps out of philanthropy, aided some people in the world and in Britain - such as the anti land mine campaign and her visits to the terminally ill and constant helping of charities. Another factor in her popularity was the fact she wasn't a Windsor and was seen by the public as one of them, although she had clearly moved upward through intergenerational mobility.
There was a big difference between Princess Di and the Queen. Princess Di was popular because of her common touch, her kindness and her concern for the poor of the world, unlike the Queen who is an elitist, miserable, snobby, crabby old sow. Since the phenomenon of Princess Di, the Queen has been riding on Di's skirttails, hoping Di's popularity will rub off on herself. Princess Di was a princess of hearts, not a princess of wallets.
If everyone in this country supposedly hates the royals so much, how is it that when I drove from Dublin to West Clare on the day of Diana's funeral, the streets of every single town I passed were empty? Why were all the bars I went into full of people watching it on TV?
I wonder how many of these "activists" work for a living, rather than drawing funds from a state they seem to want to overthrow.
Being a "Head of State" does not make a person entitled to be welcomed.
That would mean welcoming the likes of George Bush, Saddam Hussein, and a variety of other thugs and loonies.
"just a victim of the system"? That's a good one!
I have nothing personal against her, but what she represents, power, privilege, the class structure. She is supposed to be the "respectable" front for that, and she accepts that position.
I do however despise that toerag, Philip, for his blatant racism and ignorance. I also think most of the offspring are spoiled brats who should be made to work for their living, perhaps they could be made to work down the mines (if there are any left in Britain after Margaret Thatcher).
When we see or hear of these people we should remember the words of our own Jim Larkin, "The great only seem great because we are on our knees"
Let us arise.
She's a Head of State and should be welcomed like any other. Most people in the Republic don't really give a toss about the North so long as no one is being killed anymore.
They're too busy making money.
Anyway, the Queen (as she is called) is a lovely woman and she works very hard, strange as it may seem. She's just a victim of the system too.
So give her a break and let her enjoy her visit to Ireland, it's not as if she can actually do anything about the 6 counties herself.
The Queens a brilliant fellow, look at all those lovely hats and frocks she wears, she could teach decrepit irish grannies a thing or two. Its very gracious of her, to consider visiting us, we should be grateful that she is going to visit us, and bestow her illustrious personage amongst us bogtrotters. Lord Mountbatten wasn't he another lovely fellow, and close relation of the Queen's, very fond of native boys, so they say in Kincora.
Controlled explosions had to be carried out on the newly opened pretigious Laganside court house which the brit Queen opened personally in an extravagant and pompous ceremony amid a tight security presence last week. In fact it was only Security force personnel that welcomed the Queen at the courthouse, outnumbering civillians by 20 to 1. It's a pity the Queen missed the car bombs, better luck next time.
The bizarre antics of Irish peace protestors campaigning against Anglo-American imperialism in Iraq, while ignoring the very real manifestation of this same imperialism in Ireland is truly laughable. RSF is to be supported in protesting this visit of Liz Saxecoburg, the worlds richest welfare Queen and head of a large, dysfunctional welfare family, who always appears as if she has bought her latest outfit at St.Vincent de Pauls.
In the 21st century Monarchy shouldn't exist. Im against all monarchy completely not just the Windsors. I hold them all in equal contempt, for the shower of Upper Class tossers that they are.
That woman hasn't done a days work in her life, nor has her family. They have never experienced economic difficulties or social barriers of any kind. They quite frankly are loaded and live off the backs of their "Subjects." Because of her "Status" she is treated 100 times more important than any average worker of citizen, with her people regarded by law as "Subjects" rather than citizens.
The woman and her Toffy nosed family employ waiters, butlers, maids, servents and drivers. They have never done a tap in their pathetic lives.
The Queen and her family do not qualify for jury service. Their Family abuse human rights by forbidding its members from marrying a Catholic. the sovereign must be in communion with the Church of England, must swear to preserve the church, and to uphold the Protestant line of succession. This appears to discriminate against other faiths, including Jews, Muslims and Hindus.
Sons also take precedence over daughters and the right of succession belongs to the eldest son.
The Queen of England is not welcome here, not just for imperialist reasons in the North, but the fact that she is a monarch. I would also be against a visit from the Spanish King etc. Its a disgrace that these "Upper Class inbreeds" can parade about in the 21st century treated as "Super humans" as against the treatment that the ordinary people daily suffer, eg low pay, heavy taxes and alienation. And those who believe that monarchy acts as a solvent upon local differences have only to look at the North, where the first step - the necessary if not the sufficient condition - towards a so called "redefined" and "non-sectarian" police force was the removal of the word "royal" from its name.
The one million euro being used to make O'Connell street "Nice" could easily be put into something worthwhile like the health service, where Hospitals are facing cut backs or in education (Granted 1 million into these services is not much but at least it would be worthwhile). The fact that "The Republican Party" Fianna Fail are willing to spend that money on A eccentric old woman, who's family history has a long history of in breeding, added to the fact that its willing to spend 10 million on 3 jets for Bertie, two of which he will most likely never use, shows the absolute contempt that this state has for the working class and its citizens.
No to Monarchy, she does not deserve to be treated better than the average citizen. There is no place for monarchy in the 21st century not just in Ireland but in the world.
Id like to see the British public demand that the Monarchy end, and send them all out to work like the rest of us. I'd like to see their millions and their property being used to finance public services in Britain aiding the British Public. Imagine how good the Health services and education would be in Britain if the Royal Family were stripped of all its wealth?
The most important reason to object to the visit of "lizzie the lizard", is because she and her brood are a parasitical element feeding off the decent people of England, Scotland, Wales, and the six counties.
Oh, and also because the brood set a bad example to young people.
I think that the visit of her majesty, the head of state of a friendly country is to be welcomed. The occasion will be of assistance in the peace process and will make a positive impression on the majority community in Northern Ireland. I would sincerely hope that the authorities would take a firm line with any terrorist sympathisers who would attempt to disrupt the visit and bring discredit on our country.
The Irish state is so insignificant and parochial that I think while she is here we should petition the Queen to be let back into the UK (provided they treat us better this time).
