 near to 400 sudents + teachers, principle and vice-principle protest against war in Donnybrook secondary school, Muckross Park. Yesterday, Friday 14th me and two other 6th years in my school (muckross park) organised an anti-war protest @lunch time in our school grounds. we wanted it to be organised and peaceful so we asked the principle for permission on thursday.she was quite reluctant @ 1st and was only happy to allow 5th and 6th yr to protest.i called richard boyd barrett to come and speak @the protest and he was very willing to.the next day i asked if it was ok to have a speaker and our principle was all for it. up till 12:20 we were running around between classes urging evry1 to join us.we made a simple poster with all the details and got loads of copies which are now all over the school!i asked the art class to make banners and by the end of their double they made around 70!@12:20 we all assembled on the field and we started up some chants aided by the megaphone richard brought.i spoke for a little while and then richard spoke, which was quite exciting for the 1st years who all lined up afterwards to ask him if he really was the guy from the late late show!the protest was a great success, we realised that most of the girls are anti-war and just needed something like this to push them to become invloved. the teachers were also very supportive, many of them joined the protest and the principle even went as far as congratulating us on the intercom!i know that recently there have been similar protests in scools throughout the country but hopefully we'll start seeing alot more. we didnt think it could happen in our school and it did so if you want to do 1 but dont think it will work just go for it anyway. |

there were walkouts in several schools in our area yesterday
and students in loreto, st andrews, st gerards, st benildus, cabinteely etc are preparing for mass walkouts on day x
keep up the good work
and learn to spell, let the towel heads look after themselves. Iraqi's wouldnt give you a job in a few years time
Well we all know Iraqis won't be giving us jobs, but neither will big buisness multinational companies, who are relocating to the cheap labour sweat shops of the third world. We don't expect soddem to employ us, but we had hoped our own governments would protect our employment interests. Recent job losses at Shorts bombardier aerospace and the closure of H&W, means that none of us are guaranteed stable and permanent employment in the future. Petrol prices are also beginning to soar and will continue to soar, due to the threat of war in the middle east, which will have a devastating effect on small local transport companies. Impending war will also lead to economic decline, due to the unstable global situation, resulting in more job losses. Employment opportunities are bad enough now, without the added affect of War on the job market.

Did the teachers agree to stop the war in Iraq or will the protests continue?
It would have to be in Donneybrook, wouldn't it? How goes the protest in Darndale? Or do the teachers there have more pressing matters to worry about?
