United States tests new Weapon of Mass Destruction

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday March 12, 2003 14:51author by Sean Report this post to the editors

Are you watching Mr. Blix

The United States today tested a huge Weapon of Mass Destruction at a Florida Airbase. The weapon may be used in Iraq very soon, and might even pass through Fort Ahern, the US military base at Shannon Airport, Ireland.

The "Massive Ordnance Airburst Bomb" - also known by US forces as the "Mother of All Bombs" - MOAB was tested at Eglin Airforce Base in Florida this morning.

The largest conventional (i.e. non-nuclear) bomb ever made is 40% more powerful than the so-called daisy cutter and shows that the United States, which is threatening war against Iraq on the pretext that it has Weapons of Mass Destruction, continues to be the world's most prolific producer of such weapons.

The bomb was dropped out of the rear of a C-130 aircraft, similar to the ones which regularly visit Fort Ahern. It produced a mushroom cloud which could be seen many kilometres away and the shockwave was felt 30km away.

When asked if the weapon could be used against Iraq US General Richard Myers, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of staff replied: "Anything we have in the arsenal, anything that's in almost any stage of development, could be used,".

Everybody knows this. Its in all the mainstream media.

Here's the story you kicked off the newswire to repeat this story yet again....an irish story that is directly relevant to indymedia readers:

McEvaddy company wins refuelling contract for US Navy
by John Jefferies Mon, Mar 10 2003, 10:59am
Today's Irish Exminer (10th March '03) reports that a Dublin based company owned by brothers Ulick and Des McEvaddy has won the in-flight refuelling contract for the US Navy.

Before anyone posts a message asking for this to be removed because it is not news, it was carried on a very small paragraph in the Examiner which many people will have missed.

According to the Examiner, Omega, the McEvaddy company, took part in trials using civil aircraft, which they say can be converted into fuel tankers in just one hour. The contract requires them to supply 100 tankers initially, increasing to 600.

For those that don't instantly remember the name McEvaddy, these are the Donegal millionaire brothers who want to build the second (PRIVATE) terminal at Dublin Airport.

Ulick McEvaddy is the owner of a large villa in the south of France which became the subject of much controversy when it emerged that Tánaiste Mary Harney and Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy had spent holidays there in 1999 just as the government was discussing the Dublin airport rail link with the McEvaddys. The rail link was central to the McEvaddy plans.

Looks like Shannon may no longer be the refuelling centre in Ireland very soon.

And to think that they are going to liberate people with a 21,000 pound bomb? War truly is peace.
And repression is freedom.

Come off it. Sorry if I knocked someone else's story off, but I imagine it's still there under "Older Stories" anyway.

Okay, it may be on the "mainstream media" but does that mean Indymedia can't even discuss it? Give us a break.
