Grainne Cunningham has a good piece in the Independent which takes the testimony of a British toursit who saw the protestors as totally peaceful and the Gardai as violent.

Did this article appear in print also?
It's very good, certainly tells it like
I know it would have been, given
the reports here and my experience
at the hands of so called Oirish justice
during last summer's RTS. Blood
thirsty and baton happy, a load of goons
and thugs is what I saw then and still
see now as I read this. Makes my heart
heavy. Fair play to all of you for showing
up and my heart and head goes out to
you in support. I am in far off lands but
will be at the next critical mass.

Fair play to the gardai, they didn't crack open enough heads on Monday. These Dulin4 type arseholes need to get a life get a job and wake up to reality.I was sick of listening to these Oisin and Fiachra types moaning on Joe Duffy about getting their skulls cracked open, what do they expect if the go about trying to block public thoroughfares because they feel like it if they want to enjoy themselves go to the park and play hurling or football.

I don't see the Gardai attacking Taxi drivers or truckers when they decide to block the city centre.

When we have politicians going on about street violence the worst perpetrators are the people supposed to be preventing such scenes.

Gards are not allowed to use batons unless they are attacked.
there was serious indiscipline and inept commanding. if they cant deal with a peaceful protest how can they be trusted to deal with anything else.
Why were appropriate tactics not used, such as standing back and waiting for the crowd to disperse, if it then turned ugly, use tear gas to disperse them and last resort romeve them from the street one by one if necessary, but if they wernt attacked there is no justification for use of weapons.

I've seen police handle crowds in serbia, england and france and the gards come across as indisciplined amatuers with poor training. its not more gards we need, its ones that the public can respect and trust.

as for the D4 whingers, yeah get a job, but I'm more than happy to support your protest rights. you might be total westbrits but this is a democracy.

shamey - Hill16 supporters club was going on about D4 Oisions and Fiachra type basically implying that they were there for no real reason as they come from wealthy backrounds and have no need for SWP stylee ideals as there not going to be any help to them or their families.

You cann't just assume that everyone there was either
1. a D4 wanker who didn't give a fuck about what they were doing so there opinion doesn't matter
2. a goddam tree-hugging hippy who needs to get a job and stop smoking their brains away so their opinion doesn't matter
3. a filthy scumbag only there to cause trouble so their opion doesn't matter

This labelling into one of the 3 catigories seems to be commonplace among many people talking about this protest.
One persons opinion as as valid as the next whatever way you label them.

First of all let me say this : I am a capitalist , however i also believ in ethical business , and the right to protest peacefuly. I am abhorred by the level of force used by the gardai in breaking up last Mondays rally.

However do you people seriously expect to be taken seriously when most of you are walking around with pink hair and looking tramps.

You even have photographs of a tosser in a black thong with a mace? You litter the street with a smashed up car and starting planitng flowers in the middle of the road - I mean jaysus guys use your heads and try to work the system that exists - which enables you to protest to chnage things for the better - as you see them.

Alternatively have a shower ,

yours etc.
