Unprecedented level of Anti-War activity taking place in Ireland in runup to F15 / PLEASE ADD EVENTS ETC MISSED BY ME IN COMMENTS An unprecedented level of activity is taking place around the country as Ireland mobilises to take part in the worldwide anti-war day of action on the 15th Febuary. Reports are disappearing from the IMC Ireland newswire almost as soon as they are published due to the sheer volume of news stories being submitted. DON'T add a new story to the newswire, because there are too many brief announcements going up, and too much information is being lost.
1pm Sat, Feb 15th, bottom of Whiterock, Falls Rd, West Belfast, feeder march into Belfast city centre to join the main march. All urged to attend.
Is it time to put this onto the features page, before this too gets lost ?
The idea with putting any more notices about Saturday in here is to stop this from getting lost. There's been a lot of anti-war activity being organised recently, and that's great, but its a bit of a problem for the newswire. If everybody makes their announcements as comments to the existing articles then everything should be much easier to find.
-Thanks very much for attending our public meeting in the Glenroyal Hotel at the end of last month. 80 people in attendance compared very well with other similar public meeting which have taken place across the country in recent weeks, thus expressing the strong anti-war feeling in the North Kildare area.
Just to let you know that we have found it difficult to find another suitable venue to hold another meeting, or to show an anti-war film. There seems to be a dearth of suitable premises to hold meetings, and the Glenroyal Hotel is now out of the questions because their room prices have increased by 50%!!!!in the past two weeks (inflation is reaching Weimer Republic proportions at this stage!!).
So now we are looking for some feedback from you who live in the area. Does anyone have ideas for suitable venues in the Maynooth/Leixlip/ Celbridge or Lucan areas. Preferably not the University in Maynooth because there are problems there getting people along who are not students.
And does anyone have any ideas for anti-war activities we can organise in the area in the next few weeks?????, February 15th is important but that must be just the start of it all.
Contact me at [email protected] cheers.

Ever dreamed of making history...........
FEB 15th is your big chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This Saturday will be the biggest mobilisation of people EVER - AT ANY TIME in HISTORY against war.
In every major city in Europe and beyond, millions of people will be taking to the streets. The young and old, black, white, women and men. Ordinary people, who most of the time feel ignored and powerless will be performing one of the most beautiful shows of strength imaginable from Belfast to Berlin, Paris to Prague and in a multitude of places across the world.
Whether it rains, snows or the sun shines, the streets of our world will be ringing out in every conceivable language with the chant NO TO WAR!
In Belfast, this will the biggest anti-war demonstration the city has ever seen. The last week has seen a flurry of meetings and events taking place around the city.
The Anti-War Coalition who are building Saturday's Rally has amongst its members the N.I. Committee of ICTU who are asking every trade unionist in the North to be on it. Churches in the North are issuing a joint statement this week against the war. The Group Schools Against War have handed out thousands of leaflets in schools and expect hundreds of young people and teachers to be on the march. The Islamic Society of Northern Ireland are urging everyone to be there. A Group University Lecturers Against the War had forty members signed up within two days of its launch. Meetings have taken place this week all over Belfast - including one last Thursday of 130 in the City Centre. Leaflets and Posters advertising the Rally ran out in two days. The Rally is supported by the Women's Coalition, Sinn Fein, the SDLP, and the PUP. It is also supported by Community Groups and Trade Unions all over the North and by people ranging from Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Corrigan to the actors from Give My Head Peace.
Everywhere there is a meeting, people agree that they have never seen anything like it.
Nor have people in the Derry Anti-War Coalition who are starting out on Wednesday morning to walk to Belfast. The long trek has been dubbed the Walk Against War and will be arriving into Belfast in time for Saturday's March. Every night the places they are stopping in has organised anti-war events to greet them.
Eager to start early on Saturday, activists in the West of the City have planned a feeder march from their part of the City. The march from West Belfast leaves the Bottom of the Whiterock Road at 1pm on Saturday and organisers are urging everyone from the surrounding area going to the city centre march and rally to be on this contingent. The North of the City are trying to organise the same (no details at this time)
In short this march will be big because it will be the sum of all its many diffrent parts. YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE PARTS. March from Derry, march from the North of the City, march from the West of the city, come by bus, come by car, bring your friends, bring your work mates, bring your children, bring your neighbours, bring banners, bring whistles but most importantly BE THERE.
We can make a difference. We can stop this war just as people like us stopped Vietnam. We can stand up and be counted.
WE CAN MAKE HISTORY!!!!

I agree with the tidyness and coherence of this as a place for F15 info, but, in 3, 4 days, this wil be pages back, people may or may not scroll back to this page...but a link...maybe even a link to this page, in another newswire article, in a few days would suffice...
There's a link to this article on the front page for the moment so hopefully that should keep everyone up to date.
The call for the next Shannon demonstration on March 1st has also fallen down the newswire, so here it is again:

Very Important - E-Mail Everyone You Know!
by Anonymous Wed, Feb 12 2003, 10:10am
Obviously, most people on this site are already convertees to the anti-war cause, and to the broader left-wing cause. What EVERYONE, needs to do, is to try and get their friends and everyone they know to try and come along on Saturday and to try and draw them towards the left (anti-capitalist, anti-globalisation, anit-imperialist etc.) movement in general. I urge everyone to email your friends and everyone you know.
Below is a posting from Mark Hewitt which I just came across a while ago (hope you dont mind me borrowing this Mark!) The text in this I think would be a nice emotional piece to inspire people to get out onto the streets and participate.
But indymedia is full of other articles that should equally be circulated to people we know.
I add again, most people who visit this site are already anti-war and will actively participate in things. One of the keys to success, to both this war and the larger, long-term crises in the world, will be to get "others"\everyone involved:-

1. Don't repost something that's already on the newswire. Especially when the editors trying to keep all the articles about Saturday in one place.
2. Don't post articles that say no more than 'tell everyone you know about X'. Its unnecessary - nobody is going to slap their forehead and think, "Ooh, what a good idea!".
3. If you feel you absolutely have to say something like that, ADD IT AS A COMMENT. Not a new article. Don't waste our space.
Peace activist Caoimhe Butterly will address an Anti-War Public Meeting in the Trades Club, Castle Street, Sligo, on this Thursday night the 13th of February at 8.30.p.m. Chair: Alderman Declan Bree.
I have posted a response to Ray's points on the below address as I dont want to take up space here. I urge everyone again to keep on emailing everyone they know about Saturday and other such events and issues. The whole world movement of the last 3/4 years has sprouted from the internet - keep on maximizing it (i.e. the internet) to spread it even futher!

Anonymous, this is one of the most turgid pieces of propandga that I've seen the SWP.
Honestly it's like the prose style of a Soviet News Cast from WW2. Just add a few more "Comrades" and change people to "glorious army of the soviet" and it'd be a more accurate piece of writing.
It's fucking crap as is your announcement that forwarding this will add to the "broad left wing cause" (and what have I told you about such pompous language) is shite. Intelligent argument and rational debate is in order.
Now fuck off, isn't there a e-mail petition you could be spamming us with?

Hi ;-)
Given your name I am taking this posting on face value but let's not get over anxious about Saturday. The Garda are also issued with batons and some of them used batons last May. Others did not. There will be few enough armed _detectives_ at Sat's demo to be fair. Although the police here are becoming less like public servants every day, the most we can expect are a few cops with cameras and a helicopter. Let's not panic, this is a peaceful demonstration of democratic power.

* Other local groups —students, trade unionists, labourites, sinn feiners— have organised buses also. For details of these, see last week’s GAAW Bulletin.
http://www.indymedia.ie/cgi-bin/newswire.cgi?id=27214&start=120
* Those wishing to travel on a bus with CONAMARA people and other gaeilgeoiri should ring Seosamh O Cuaig, 095-33428
* Those who want to travel with the TUAM contingent should contact [email protected]
PARTICIPATING IN THE F15 DEMO
GAAW hopes that all Galway groups will march together. Paraic Breathnach and other volunteers are making things for the protest —a large float for drummers, banners, colourful placards, &c. Because of the large scale of all of this, the organisers have agreed that GAAW and other Galway groups will take a position at the front of the demo. It is hoped that each contingent will bring their own placards, banners, &c. The national organisers have asked also that each bus appoint two march stewards. They will be given their stewards’ t-shirts in Dublin. For those travelling independently, the demonstration will leave Parnell Sq —in the direction of O’Connell Bridge— at 2 pm.
FAMILY GROUPS FEBRUARY 15th
It should be emphasised that Saturday’s demonstration will be absolutely peaceful, and anybody can safely join at any point. However, there are efforts to create a child-friendly area within the larger demonstration. There’s more information on this http://www.indymedia.ie/cgi-bin/newswire.cgi?id=28355&start=10

BIG ANTI-WAR MEETING IN GALWAY
230 people attended Monday night's public meeting organised by the Galway Alliance Against War. The media presence, both local and national, was substantial. War is not inevitable, was the clear message from platform speakers, Denis Halliday and Michael D. Higgins, both recently returned from Iraq. The speakers gave accounts of their recent visits, advanced convincing arguments concerning the illegality —not to mention the immorality— of the Bush/Blair plans, condemned the craven cowardice of the Irish government, responded to questions, and insisted that if enough of us rally on 15 February, the warmongers might yet be stopped. After the meeting, members of the audience were eager to go on the Dublin march, to assist with banner-making, and to get involved in other ways.
BE A FILM-MAKER FOR A DAY ON 15th FEBRUARY
A number of Galway-based independent film-makers are attempting to organise the production of a visual record which will capture the essence of the 15 February Dublin demonstration. Obviously, a few individuals willl not be able to achieve this by themselves. Instead, it is envisaged that the meaning of the march will be captured and interpreted by those participating. The result should be an authentically democratic record of the day, created by hundreds, if not thousands of people.
We are asking you to bring a camera —an ordinary stills camera, a video camera, a movie camera or whatever— and to record anything you consider moving, poignant, or interesting in any way. Ideally, the record should start before you leave Galway, Tuam, An Spideal, Tuam, or wherever, on Saturday morning. After 15 February, photographs, videos, or other images can be sent to GAAW, c/o 33 Claremont, Galway or to [email protected].
Don’t leave it to the O’Reilly media to tell the story of F15. Let us tell our own story. It is envisaged that any film which results from this initiative will be used to build support for the anti-war movement.
JOHN PILGER FILM ON IRAQ, SUNDAY 16th
The Green Party is showing a John Pilger film about sanctions in Iraq (1.5 hours) in the Atlanta Hotel next Sunday 16th Feb at 7pm. The meeting/film will be open to the public.
ABOUT THE GAAW BULLETIN
The GAAW Bulletin, which we send about once a week to people on our list, is our way of circulating information about anti-war activity locally. But it is more than that. We see it also as an ORGANISER for the anti-war movement. Through the bulletin, people are enabled to become active, to join in anti-war activities and to spread the message to others. If you have friends who don’t receive the bulletin, send it on to them, or give them a print-out.
BUSH’S ANTHEM
Several people have sent me the following verses. I thought I’d share them with everybody.
Bush’s Anthem
(to the tune of If You're Happy and You Know It)
If you cannot find Osama, bomb Iraq.
If the markets are a drama, bomb Iraq.
If the terrorists are frisky,
Pakistan is looking shifty,
North Korea is too risky,
Bomb Iraq.
If we have no allies with us, bomb Iraq.
If we think that someone's dissed us, bomb Iraq.
So to hell with the inspections,
let's look tough for the elections,
Close your mind and take directions,
Bomb Iraq
It's pre-emptive non-aggression, bomb Iraq.
To prevent this mass destruction, bomb Iraq.
They've got weapons we can't see,
And that's all the proof we need,
If they're not there, they must be there,
Bomb Iraq.
If you never were elected, bomb Iraq.
If your mood is quite dejected, bomb Iraq.
If you think Saddam's gone mad
with the weapons that he had,
and he tried to kill your dad,
Bomb Iraq.
If corporate fraud is growin', bomb Iraq.
If your ties to it are showin', bomb Iraq.
If your politics are sleazy, and hiding that ain't easy,
And your manhood's getting queasy,
Bomb Iraq.
Fall in line and follow orders, bomb Iraq.
For our might knows not our borders, bomb Iraq.
Disagree? We'll call it treason,
Let's make war not love this season,
Even if we have no reason,
Bomb Iraq.

Ray, just a suggetsion - but any chance you could leave Sat 15th related postings in both places - i.e on this listing and on the main newswire?
Problem is this list is getting very long and stuff gets lost in the comments sections of articles. I think it would be good for people to see it in the main newswire as well.
For those absolutely unable to travel to Dublin on Saturday, a protest/action will be held in Daunt Square in Cork city from 2pm. Bring your own homemade placards or anything that symbolises your opposition to the proposed war on Iraq. We are hoping to have a sound system on the day so that a speak-out can form part of the action.
Ray/IMC: why don't you delete comments like this one, for instance (and other queries etc), in order to shorten the list of comments? Otherwise, people are going to miss important items. There are a number of comments above that - having made their point - could now be deleted. Please delete this once read!
The newswire was being clogged by feb 15th announcments so they decided to move them onto hear.
So in essence you want to reverise the decision because you can't figure this out.
My god you really are that stupid.
