Stephen Collins (pol. ed. Sun Trib) - Were you there or were you spun by willie 's Doktors?

news report
Sunday January 19, 2003 15:50 by Blisset
. 'The turnout for the protest (January 18th) only came to 500 or so people and was much smaller than the organisers expected' ends his boring , waffly and inconclusive 'there is a small problem and it's now rectified and nobody gives a shit anyway' article on Shannon in today's paper. Fundamentally incorrect Stephen - every other publication I've looked at had the decency to acknowledge that it was at least over 1000- were you there or were you spun or are you just signing stories that are handed to you? The Observer (and various other news agency sources) -1900 estimate of Attendance at Jan 18th Protest at shannon airport.

protesters (jedi?!)
The video I just watched here said 3,000. So who's lying?
So I reckon 2200 is a good enuff figure.
The 500 in the Tribune is misinformation or just a plain mistake.
I was there, and conservatively I would say there was well over
1000 people. Absolutely no way less than that. In fact when we
arrived in Shannon, everyone on the bus was surprised by the
big crowd there and there was sort of a 'wow!' went through the
bus.
I would think the figure of 1500 being widely quoted is pretty accurate.
But then what else do you expect from a right wing leaning paper like
the Sunday Tribune. They are just worried now that this movement is going
to deeper, and that the corporate friends might get pissed off.
Motives are very important. People go to the protest because they don't the
war, and papers and people like Stephen Collins write what they write because
they have vested interests and worries about them.
