Support the Farmers!

Today hundreds of tractors are coming into Dublin City to protest against the governments inactio over rural poverty. The IFA protest has been going on all week throughout the country. The 'Tractorcade' has involved thousands of farmers and has got the support of most people. Small farmers are being ripped off by the large corporations, such as the creamaries etc. Small farmers are also under sevier financial pressure and get only a proportion of what an avearage worker get (and even workers are getting less of a share of the national wealth due to 'partnership'). Increasingly small farmers have had to get other part-time jobs and others in the family have had to work outside the farm in order to keep food on the table. This protest is clearly a protest against this right-wing corrupt governemnt. It is a protest against worsening living standards. This protest should be fully supported by workers in Dublin. We have a common enemy, ie the government and big business. I think that the IFA should have brought more tractors into the City and the Trade Unions in Dubin should have called a solidarity strike for the day. |
