Television Sacrifice NCAD this friday

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday April 19, 2002 12:01author by thefatremotecontroller Report this post to the editors

Sick of TV? We have the solution. Get to the Courtyard, NCAD, 100 Thomas St., Dublin 8 on friday 26th April 6.30pm.
2218_1.JPG

Everyone present will have their names go into a hat. If you get picked you will be handed the ceremonial weapon of your choice, don the sacrificial safety garb and then smash a tv. There are a number of televisions available for your smashing pleasure. Weapons available so far are: a brick, a sledgehammer, and an aluminium baseball bat (pictured). Please feel free to bring your own weapon. Anyone with a large double sided axe, a mace or a scythe is welcome. There is one condition: throughout Tv Turnoff week monday 22nd - sunday 28th April you must not watch television. Can you survive one week without it? Will your brain implode?

Television Sacrifice will improve your health:

- at the point of contact of weapon and television tube, endorphins will be released into the bloodstream, reducing stress and alleviating aggression.

- aiming the weapon will improve your hand to eye co-ordination

- whereas watching television will increase your levels of zombification, smashing television actually stimulates thinking and interaction with other humans.

Items to bring:
- Safety goggles / eye protection.
- Your favourite weapon, preferably large and heavy. No guns: sorry.
- Old/broken televisions (with tube intact).

To find the courtyard in NCAD go under the arch on Thomas St, keep going straight for about 200m and you'll see the courtyard on the right

Yes TV is the slury of every living room in this country of ours. Nothing but packaged news with all the wholemeal goodness stripped out and a doughy, sticky feeling left in your gut.

TV is made to pander to everyone and therefore its as edgy as a beach ball and as flat as a freshly tarmacadamed road.
The ads make us feel bad for driving dirty cars and if I start buying those bloody razors at €10 a pack, I'll not be able to afford me dinner!

I never watch TV as only Radio and online publication allow for feedback in person.
