Belfast fundraising gig

news report
Tuesday October 29, 2002 04:39 by Barbara - SWP barbara_muldoon at yahoo dot com
Wed 30 Nov, Menagerie, University Street Belfast, 9pm to late The New Breed and The Evangelists are playing at a fundraiser for the Belfast District of the Socialist Workers Party this Wednesday night. The gig is to raise money for a printer that can do large scale jobs. As has already been kindly pointed out on Indymedia, the SWP has shouldered a lot of the cost of producing material for the Irish Anti War Movement and Globalise Resistance. We have also been at the centre of the ESF mobilisation. The pace at which the US/UK war machine is cranking itself up means that we need the printer as soon as possible. This printer will substantially reduce the cost of the materials. Come along to the gig to show your support. It promises to be a great night's crack. It is also an opportunity to meet socialist activists in Belfast. Alternatively if you would like to make a contribution to the fund but can't make the gig then you can e:mail me directly and I'll give you the details. Yours fraternally

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9I´m sure that if the SWM ask very nicely, (very very nicely), (without shouting), other people with a printer for a loan of it they will be afforded these precious and very expensive resources ("in a fraternal smoochy smoochy all of us together sort of way").
If the SWM are indeed "at the centre" of the ESF they will have noticed that there are many fine quality printing machines around Europe which aren´t in use 24/7...It seems sensible and economical ... nay ...thrifty to share this type of machinery, thus reducing "capital investment costs" and therefore only incurring costs for distribution / delivery of the posters.
And the name of the bands are very ironic "new breed" & "evangalists". hmmm....
Best of Luck!
NEVERMIND indy student bollix, WE WANT SKA, ROCK STEADY, REGGAE and RUNNIN RIOT not trendy lefty student wankers.
Possibly, but look at the price you pay:
You are at someone else's mercy. If they don't like the stuff you propose to print they can say no. They will let you use it only when it suits them, which may mean you can respond with material in a rapidly changing situation.
The SWP in the North wants to be in a situation where it can produce its own material rapidly and on its own account. If you think that's a good idea why not support their appeal?
These are often heard arguments on printers.
I recall being very very pissed off once when a wonderful printer without a safe home was doing the rounds in Barcelona once to hear these arguments used by both sides.
It seems to me an excellent idea to have printers.
and radio stations and telecommunication satelites and cyber sites and stickers and the whole thing. Its great.
¿If people support the Belfast swimmies will they get some printing time, if they´re locals?
I´ve also heard the noise objection to printers which always seemed silly to me, back in the days when most radio listeners in Europe were a dream away from the EU and confined to 66-77MHZ listening, printers filled a very real need for "underground" media purposes. Independent media. And the printers were shared and wrapped in blankets and mattresses to reduce the noise.
So anyway will you allow others to use your printer??
and good luck with getting it.
In answer to the last posting. The SWP printer in Dublin has for years famously printed lots of anti-war leaflets etc as well as other material for the movement besides SWP party stuff.
Within the limitations of cost and time the SWP has always been willing to give progressive movements a dig out.
now I´ve bee giving the SWiMies my
"LOVED UP RED BLOCK SPACE"
for the last few days now, in contrast to only a little while ago when writing as "out of the country and far from the fuss" I fantasised about owning a pub and lording it over a Swimie worker.
So 21st century anarchists know what I´m up to.
Love all the redblockers equally and they´ll lend you their printers.
Sure Joe Higgins is great and the SP ¿but we can´t write that all the time can we? exactly.
¿Isn´t Eamonn Mc Cann very funny?
he certainly dealt with Eamonn Dunphy back in the national question debate of 1989, didn´t he?
sure there´s a seanfhocal about that, and anarcho-watcher probably has a new opportunity to use it today.
¿maybe you could use the Irish as well?
best of luck with your printer SwiMies!
kissy kissy smoochy smoochy
I´ll keep up the fantasising....
