European Car-Free Day Critical Mass

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday September 20, 2002 16:34author by Ant Report this post to the editors

Come along for a fun cycle around town .

Car-Free Day is almost upon us and a special Critical Mass bike ride has been planned for it (Sunday Sep 22nd). The meeting point is 1.30pm at the pedestrianised area next to the junction of Amien St. and Talbot Street. The reason for this new meeting place is that at 1.15pm Dublin Cycling Campaign are staging a demonstration at Connolly Station.

The demonstration is part of an ongoing campaigning to highlight Irish Rail's dismissive attitude towards the concept of integrated sustainable transport in general and the need for bicycle parking at train stations in particular.

The new meeting spot means that cyclists can take part in this demonstration and then the Critical Mass which just might end up at a free street party.

Bring your family, friends, bicycle bells and whistles for a fun and friendly cycle around town.

For those unfamiliar with Critical Mass, it's a loose group of cyclists who meet up once a month to cycle around the city in order to show that bikes are traffic too. See http://www.critical-mass.org/ for more details.
In Dublin, we usually meet on the last Friday of every month at the Garden of Remembrance at 6pm.

And give them away free.
