For Immediate Release. According to an open letter published today, September 3rd, by Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, son of Mrs. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, under the pretext of the publication in the London Times of a photo of a woman without Islamic hijab, Sakineh has been sentenced to 99 lashes on charges of spreading corruption and indecency. On August 28, The Times mistakenly published a front page photo of a woman without Islamic hijab and attributed the image as that of Mrs. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani. However, the photo was actually of another woman, Mrs. Susan Hejrat, a political activist living in Sweden. The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) today praised the successful intervention by Irish Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern to block a proposed European Commission data-sharing plan with Israel. Monday 30th August saw the official launch of the Irish Ship to Gaza campaign at a press conference in the Gresham Hotel. The campaign aims to maximise Irish participation in the Second Gaza Freedom Flotilla and hopes to see between up to 50 Irish people - including public figures, members of the Irish media and activists – on board the flotilla. The campaign needs to raise funds urgently to ensure it is a success and is calling on all supporters of the Palestinian people and their struggle for human rights to donate generously and to assist in this effort to break the illegal siege and bring much-needed aid and supplies to the people of Gaza. ... read full story / add a comment

Mansour Osanloo, president of the board of directors of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company (a public transit company owned by Tehran Municipal government with about 17000 employees) has been sentenced this week to one year imprisonment by the City of Karaj Islamic Revolutionary Court for "propaganda against the system". Mr. Osanloo has been subject to increasing harassment in recent months and was put on trial recently at Karaj Revolutionary court. Osanloo had also been charged with "connection with the opponents of the system".
