Activists from Aliberation, ARAN & AFAR will gather outside the Japanese Embassy to protest the brutal slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan. The activists will be flanked by a giant Banner that reads ‘Japan Stop Killing Dolphins’, whilst others hold "Shame on Japan" posters and distribute leaflets to passersby.

The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Natural Resources and the Environment, Martin Ferris TD, has voiced his regret over the decision by the Environmental Protection Agency to grant a license to the Corrib Consortium to proceed with the planned gas refinery at Bellanaboy, County Mayo. Deputy raised the issue in the Dáil this afternoon in an effort to have the issue debated, particularly in the light of the Green Party's previous opposition to the sitting of a refinery at that location.

Workers employed by the United Bus Company of Tehran (Sharekat-e Vahed) were arrested and detained in Evin prison in an attempt to prevent a strike. The workers are demanding a pay rise, collective bargaining, recognition of their union and the release of their union’s president. 12 leading members of the Union of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company were arrested following their fight for better pay and working conditions. This conference will highlight the dangers for education in following a commercial agenda and explore positive responses from educators, parents and students to this trend.

According to Concern and other international and national NGOs, there is an unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in South Central Somalia. Tens of thousands of people are currently fleeing violence in Mogadishu adding to the up to 335,000 people already needing immediate lifesaving assistance in Mogadishu and the Shabelle regions.
NGOs cannot respond effectively to the crisis because access and security are deteriorating dramatically at a time when needs are increasing. The international community and all involved parties have a responsibility to protect civilians, to allow the delivery of aid and to respect humanitarian space and the safety of humanitarian workers.
