On Sept. 1st, a lewd comment was left on www.Rate-Your-Solicitor.com about a Dublin based barrister, Jayne Maguire, who rang John Gill, P.R.O. of the Victims of the Legal Profession, to ask him to remove the comment. She explained to him that a male colleague had left this comment about her. When John said that he had no control over the website, Ms Maguire initiated a defamation suit against John through McCann FitzGerald Solicitors, who told John he may face imprisonment if he does not have the offensive material removed as per a High Court injunction issued by Judge Michael Hanna. ... read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday 26th September, Magee Ogra Shinn Fein held a recruitment drive in the university grounds. The Magee cumann has been active in the University for a number years and still remains the only active political society on the campus. Ogra Shinn Fein were ecxluded from the freshers fayre as they refused to sign the political protocol which was introduced by the University of Ulster and endorsed by the Students Union. The protocol censors political activity and effectively meant that Ogra could not hand out any literature which which would identify them as being a political society. Pine Gap is an NSA Base, located near outback Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is involved in targetting information for U.S. bombing raids in Iraq. Ógra Shinn Féin was joined by Gerry Adams on Saturday to launch the Dublin Health Rally. Some Ógra activists held posters while others dressed up as patients on a hospital trolley, representing the massive waiting lists that currently passes as a Health Service in the 26 Counties. The Western Writers' Centre website at www.twwc.ie welcomes stories and poems for publication in English, French as well as Irish. Already the site carries a number of works from around the globe; but manager Fred Johnston, who himself translates stories and poems from French into English and received a Prix de l'Ambassade to work on the poetry of Michel Martin, would like to see the actual languages change. ... read full story / add a comment

On Wed the 20th September Ógra Shinn Féin Co Lú ran a recruitment drive in Dundalk Institute of Technology. The Cumann has been in the college for three years and until this year was the only active political society in the Institute. The drive went very well receiving a great deal of attention from students and improving on the number of members for last year.
