Islamophobia has replaced anti-semitism as the unifying ideology for the extreme right in Austria where neo-fascist rivals Heinz-Christian Strache and Jorg Haider utilised slogans such as “Homeland instead of Islam” and “Vienna must not become Istanbul” to make huge gains in last week’s national elections at the expense of the Conservative OeVP and Social Democrats SPOe parties . Under pressure from the US and other nuclear powers, Micheál Martin has agreed to a proposal allowing India - a non-signatory of the NPT - to engage in nuclear trade. This constitutes a shredding of Ireland's historic commitment to the NPT and shows that there is not a principle on earth on which our government isn't prepared to capitulate - presumably for the right price. ... read full story / add a comment
