A senior Russian military analyst warned yesterday that the U.S. and NATO had used the conflict in Georgia as a dress rehearsal for a future military operation in Iran. Col. Gen Leonid Ivashov, president of the Russian Academy of Geopolitical Studies, speaking at a news conference told the Russian news and information agency , Novosti :
"We are close to a serious conflict - U.S. and NATO preparations on a strategic scale are ongoing. Amnesty International documents the 20th anniversary of the massacre of prisoners in Iran. It notes that no one has been held accountable for this atrocity. Full text at link.

Twenty years after the then Iranian authorities began a wave of largely secret, summary and mass executions in September 1988, Amnesty International renews its call for those responsible for the “prison massacre” to be held accountable. The ex chief of Mossad gives his opinion of Ahmadinejad. And it aint pretty! Ahmadinejads very existence makes it more difficult to build solidarity against US aggression towards Iran. Full text at link.

According to a report delivered to the U.N. General Assembly on January 10, 2008 by the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID), there were no reported instances of persons disappeared in Haiti during the year 2007. The WGEID is part of the U.N. High Commission on Human Rights and as such is in the loop to receive regular human rights reports filed by the U.N. mission in Haiti. More than five months after Mr. Pierre-Antoine’s disappearance and public acknowledgement of the case by U.N. authorities in Haiti, the WGEID completely omitted any reference to it in their report to the General Assembly. ... read full story / add a comment
