Today a few things happened - Iraq, London, Poverty etc.., But for some reason US TV network MSNBC wanted to lead their news hour with a Paris Hilton story. You know the vapid girl who went to jail (not prison) and suffered attention deficit disorder, read the bible but couldn't remember her favourite passage.... Watch this video as Mika Brzezinsk refused on air to lead with the story saying she wanted Iraq first and then tried to burn her script. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VdNcCcweL0 ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Josh Wolf is a minor cause celebre in the USA. As a freelance-journalist/blogger/indymedista he had taken video of a lot of demonstrations. One particular demonstration saw the police subpoena a video tape from him in order to attempt to prosecute someone in a black bloc that allegedly assaulted a police officer. Josh refused and went to jail for longer than any other journalist in US history. ... read full story / add a comment

There is an article with the above title published over on Anarkismo that discusses free software and related activities in terms of what it means for Anarchism. It draws some parallels with previous freebie or volunteer efforts in the past and compares them to today. Unlike most discussions around changing the future that tend to focus on key political events and ideas, this article presents the case that the mundane acts of writing free software is creating important kinds of awarenesses in people that would otherwise not be politically motivated. ... read full story / add a comment |
