The Assyrian International News Agency has produced a deeply troubling Genocide report regarding the Assyrian (Chaldean) Christians of Iraq. The report: Incipient Genocide: The Ethnic Cleansing of the Assyrians of Iraq portrays a systematic campaign of massacre and destruction of this indigenous population of Iraq. Through intimidation, forced conversions, murder, kidnapping, beheading of Church leaders, rape, and daily threats against their security and lives, the Assyrian Christian population in Baghdad and other major cities has dwindled from a once-thriving community to almost nothing. ... read full story / add a comment

As far as I know this story hasn't really broken in Ireland - and it certainly has a human interest dimension to it. As you can see in this youtube video between the 52nd second and the first minute and 4 seconds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKDdF6vfjoo the watch (Timex) which Bush was wearing disappeared during a hand-shaking session with Albanians (the only Europeans who like him). ... read full story / add a comment

I was stunned by the implications of this little story I just spotted on RTE. It seems Dublin hasn't had an IKEA before. How did you escape the stylish homogenous cheaply produced and easy to assemble look ? Will the FF/Green coalition have any influence on peoples' need or want for such furniture & interior bits and bobs? ... read full story / add a comment

"gloriajw' has written a very good article which breaks down many of the causes of alienation of women in technical groups and online communities. It was forwarded to the IMC Global women's list with the following comment: "Generally a subject covered much too little in indymedia communities, on our websites and in communication we are having with each other. With the email from Melbourne today that another collective had decided to shut down, also because they couldn't handle spam on the site, this seems even more interesting. The article is about gender, and at the same time about communication, and the anonymity of open publishing." ... read full story / add a comment |
