This years anarchist bookfair (3rd March, Teachers Club) will see a meeting for Polish speaking anarchists in Ireland. There will also be a 'Polish anarchists in Ireland' stall. Poland has quite a large anarchist movement as a result there are a significant number of Polish anarchists who like other Poles have migrated to Ireland to find work. They have translated a large number of articles written by anarchist in Ireland by WSM members into Polish. These translations are now available on the WSM web site. ... read full story / add a comment

The above photographed men have tried and failed to talk themselves out of a corner in relation to domestic and foreign political scandal in the course of the last four years. Latest development for the troubled energy giant in what is rapidly becoming a year of bad news is that the Nigerian election may be fought on plans to nationalise the country's natural resources. It seems to be an emerging pattern that as energy becomes scarce, states don't like the idea of their oil and gas being sold or (in some cases) given away to transnational companies like Shell. It seems unlikely, but who knows what is going to happen, maybe the general election in Ireland will be fought on similar issues. On a day when the minister for justice is moaning about the cost of tribunals, and asking why the money spent there can't be used for parts of the economy which are underfunded like the Health Service, perhaps some smart candidate will start to question why the 51 Billion euro that the Corrib and associated fields are worth could not be used to fund something useful for the Irish economy. Maybe even a tribunal of inquiry into the giveaway itself. ... read full story / add a comment

The Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, has managed to gain some international attention after his hysterical attack on presidential candidate, Barack Obama. The seasoned Australian politician knowingly stated that a victory for Obama OR the Democrats would be a victory for al-Qaeda, “I mean, if I we're running al-Qaeda in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008 and pray as many times as possible for a victory not only for Obama but also for the Democrats”. ... read full story / add a comment |
