I'll let the (trying his best) Olberman to make the main point but add that rightwing party members of the Phil and Hist in TCD are doing the same job these 527 ads are doing in America. TCD phil or hist wheeled out Andrem Choudry to spout old scarey stuff about Islam for like the third year and row the other night, I guess they can't find anyother fool to turn up for their pretend debate/cirucs, while they pretned it to be grown up by wearing tuxes..All groups should be very selective in who they invite to talk at meetings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUn7bw2QLlc ... read full story / add a comment

An Irish business man who tried to register porn.ie has had his application turned down because the word porn is "offensive and immoral". A very interesting article in the Irish Times today, considering the background to the siting of the giant gas refinery that Shell seek to construct at Beal an Átha Buí (known in English as Ballinaboy, Bellinaboy or Bellanaboy). The views in the article are worth paying attention to, since the authors are extremely well-qualified to comment on this subject. Leo Corcoran was previously Engineering Manager of Bord Gáis and Brian Coyle is a partner with consulting engineers Coyle Kennedy. Perhaps rather than arguing with people who are not as well qualified to discuss these issues on the comments section of indymedia articles on the continuing occupation of Erris by Shell and their security forces, we should simply refer people to this piece. ... read full story / add a comment

2-4 May 2007 . Conference at the University of Albaerta, Edmonton, AB, Canada. In 1929 Virginia Woolf predicted that women in another century or so if given the opportunity and rooms of their own, will have the habit of freedom and the courage to write exactly what we think, seeing human beings in relation to each other and in relation to reality. Our knowledge based economy and society have made such an opportunity more tangible for some and more elusive for others. The Australian Minister for Communications, Helen Coonan, buoyed by her recent success in eliminating media diversity in Oz is now targeting the most diverse (content) medium on the planet – the internet. Her latest comments (news radio) veil her real intentions (information control!) The only effective means of controlling the flow of information on the internet is filtering at backbone or provider level. Conservatives are entirely predictable and Coonan is no exception, her intentions to target the internet were anticipated, a quote from an article dated July 5, follows: ... read full story / add a comment |
