The person/s (activists, perhaps assassins) the agencies seek in relation to the approaching APEC summit may be known to the activist and broader political community; it is therefore with extreme prejudice that we cite government failures in relation to security and policing matters. The APEC summit may become the greatest security failure in Australian history. Infiltration/undercover operations are a two-edged sword; however, that sword has been broken by anti-corruption zealots in NSW. The State now faces gaping inefficiencies and a lack of urgently required expertise. ... read full story / add a comment

Sherman Austin was arrested prior to 9/11 for operating the website RaiseTheFist.com. An anonymous poster had added a link in a comment to commonly availble information on bomb making. While Sherman was in pre-trial custody 9/11 occured and he foolishly struck a 3-month plea bargain with the prosecutor. The judge ignored the prosecutor's recommendation and tripled the sentence. Now Sherman is released and has returned to direct action activism in downtown LA involving the videotaping of cops. Yahoo!News covers the story with two video clips. ... read full story / add a comment

As the Middle East explodes in factional and sectarian conflict the neo-cons gloat, John Bolton and Condi Rice revealed U.S. policy during the South Lebanon conflict, their non-interventionist policy encouraged the slaughter of children and civilians by Israeli forces – peace is clearly of no use to American interests! What does it matter if most of the Middle East tears itself apart, America stands to gain from the mayhem and bloodshed. ... read full story / add a comment

The Assyrian International News Agency has produced a deeply troubling Genocide report regarding the Assyrian (Chaldean) Christians of Iraq. The report: Incipient Genocide: The Ethnic Cleansing of the Assyrians of Iraq portrays a systematic campaign of massacre and destruction of this indigenous population of Iraq. Through intimidation, forced conversions, murder, kidnapping, beheading of Church leaders, rape, and daily threats against their security and lives, the Assyrian Christian population in Baghdad and other major cities has dwindled from a once-thriving community to almost nothing. ... read full story / add a comment

As far as I know this story hasn't really broken in Ireland - and it certainly has a human interest dimension to it. As you can see in this youtube video between the 52nd second and the first minute and 4 seconds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKDdF6vfjoo the watch (Timex) which Bush was wearing disappeared during a hand-shaking session with Albanians (the only Europeans who like him). ... read full story / add a comment

I was stunned by the implications of this little story I just spotted on RTE. It seems Dublin hasn't had an IKEA before. "gloriajw' has written a very good article which breaks down many of the causes of alienation of women in technical groups and online communities. It was forwarded to the IMC Global women's list with the following comment: "Generally a subject covered much too little in indymedia communities, on our websites and in communication we are having with each other. With the email from Melbourne today that another collective had decided to shut down, also because they couldn't handle spam on the site, this seems even more interesting. The article is about gender, and at the same time about communication, and the anonymity of open publishing." ... read full story / add a comment

This morning with the arrest by the Spanish Guardia Civil of 6 individuals in Barcelona the far-left terrorist organisation "Grapo" who were responsible for 75 murders has ended. Sympathisers with terrorist organisations in the Spanish state are far and few between these days, but the news might be of interest to their long-standing associates in the IRSP and INLA who often used this very website to call for solidarity and seek signatures on petitions amidst talk of "show trials" & the like. Sadly however the people of Catalonia and the Spanish state may not look forward to a society without mindless and arbitrary violence as the terrorist organisation ETA which broke its ceasefire with the murder of 2 Ecuadorians at New Year has declared a return to war "on all fronts" ... read full story / add a comment

It is unbelievable to hear the news about a 12 years old girl, brutally killed by her father because he suspected her of having a relationship with their 24-year-old male neighbour. Amina was killed on the 5th May 2007 by her own father in their house opposite the Ministry of Human Rights in Erbil, Kurdistan. Amina’s father is said to be a PUK military official who has not been charged or even punished for killing his daughter up until now. It is said that Amina begged her father not to kill her, and that she kissed her father’s feet twice for mercy. He was cruel enough to ignore his 12 years old daughter’s innocent plea and killed her in cold blood. ... read full story / add a comment |
