Delara Darabi -- Artist on Death Row Needs Our Help! On January 27, 2007, Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Delara Darabi for a second time. Delara faces death by public hanging for a murder that took place when she was 17 years old. After murdering a woman related to Delara, Delara’s 19 year old boyfriend, Amir Hossein, convinced Delara to admit responsibility for the murder to protect him from execution. Apparently, both believed that because Delara was under the age of 18, she could not be sentenced to death. This belief proved to be devastatingly false. With complete disregard for its obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child , and despite overwhelming evidence of Delara’s innocence, as well as her repeated denials about having had any role in the commission of the crime, an Islamic court found her guilty of murder based solely on her initial claim of responsibility and sentenced her to death by hanging. ... read full story / add a comment

Professor Librescu was a 75 year old professor in Virginia Tech. He lectured for twenty years in solid fuel mechanics. The oral hearing in Belmullet continues, with questions still unanswered about the large Garda presence in the hotel where the hearing is taking place, and then, the surprise revelation that the consultation process carried out by Shell and Mayo County Council on the subject of "cold-venting" did not include actually consulting with anyone who lives near the proposed refinery. Mayo County Council are still not attending the hearing. The images and story about the Rosette Nebula are in today's Guardian and include all the technical language regarding the birth of stars. [including the Bok Globules] The images are very arresting and only published in black and white in the dailies. The mayor of Nagasaki city in Japan made popular by the role it played Nuclear weapon development & Global Psychological Warfare suffered serious injuries in the last 24 hours when he was shot twice by Tetsuya Shiroo a 59 year old member of the Suishin Kai branch of the Yamaguchi Gumi. A very well known and feared Yakuza clan. as seen in movies like Kill Bill and Kill Bill (2). Itcho Ito had campaiging for re-election on an anti-yakuza platform; all types of yakuza, suishin kai, yamaguchi gumi, non-yamaguchi gumi. This would have been at root, branch and clan level. Lots of people have been concerned that the Bellanaboy Refinery Site is as big as it is. 400 acres for an installation that the world's frendliest company tell us will only occupy about 20. So what's the story? Others tell us that the government can't get involved in the oil and gas business (as the Norwegians did) because just isn't enough oil and gas out there. There is a new article over on the oildrum.com website about: Peak Oil and Senegal. The author of the piece recently visited the country for himself and noted that they generate about 75% of their electricity by burning oil. This makes them very vulnerable to price increases since they are a relatively poor country and will have difficultly affording it.
