In this very interesting report from Montreal Canada, we get a glimpse at some of the undercover activities of the state and police forces which are there to protect capitalism. What is reported is that an undercover cop was caught on video throwing rocks at a protest. Clearly the state and police are working hard all the time to manipulate public opinion to believe that protesters always mean violence and are associated with criminals. When they don't get the result that they want, they then go out and make it so. This is not unique to just the place where this report comes from. ... read full story / add a comment

Here a group of Iranian antiwar activists make clear their feelings about Iran and the support it gets from some on the left. They say: Iran is part of the world imperialist-capitalist system And its contradictions with U.S. imperialism will not change the nature of this regime. Recently we read an article “Standing up to Islamophobia” published in Socialist Worker Online (US). As a group of Iranian antiwar activists, we respond to this article concerning the direction of the antiwar movement. We think that the position of SW(US) is not in the interest of international proletarian revolution and must be opposed based. The position that the ISO is theorizing asserts that the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) regime is a progressive and anti-imperialist in nature. We do not believe so, and intend to show that IRI regime is dependent and part of the world imperialist-capitalist system. Its contradictions with U.S. imperialism will not change the nature of this regime. ... read full story / add a comment

There's probably nothing much in this, but today's Spiegel reports that several German ministry computers in their Federal government have been found to contain a cunning trojan backdoor exploration thingy which came from China. Of course they already have one that comes from the NSA in the USA, & heck - Real Player invented the whole commercial backdoor thing ( I know Richard Stallman just told me on a youtube video ). & then there was yer man Mohammad Afroze Abdul Razzak who infiltrated Microsoft on behalf of Al Qaeda coz back in 2001 coz they knew Microsoft were infiltrating your computers. So really at the end this is just about language practise & helping you feel European & most of all not getting too cocky about your hardware, software or extensions. In this article Ardeshir Mehrdad and Yassamine Mather examine the underpinnings of Political Islam, they show how it is fundamentally anti-democratic and how it is hostile to the Enlightenment and the interests of the Working Class. The full text is at the link. The last three decades have witnessed a relentless growth of Islamic movements, so that, today political Islam is an undeniable reality on the world scene. The events of September 11, 2001 and since have given it further prominence. From the Middle East to North Africa and South Asia, it has, in its various manifestations, become a major player that needs to be analysed both politically and theoretically. The contradictory nature of political Islam means that such analyses must deal with it not only in relation to the interests of capital, but also in relation to the challenge it poses to socialist ideas. ... read full story / add a comment

Heres an English translation of a story which got little attention in the mainstream media, what was published was sketchy and confusing. Kathlyn Stone provided the translations for the statements and wrote the main story. The full story is at the link. On the 4th of July, U.S. military and Iraqi national guards opened fire with bullets and grenades on the Baghdad home of Abdel-Hussein Saddam. The severely wounded Abdel-Hussein was taken away and his 18-year-old daughter was left alone, injured and bleeding on the floor. Abdel-Hussein’s beaten body turned up at the Yarmouk morgue on July 6. The murder of Abdel-Hussein was the most devastating of four attacks by the U.S. military on the Iraq Freedom Congress in the past 10 months. The IFC is comprised primarily of trade unionists, community leaders, women’s and children’s rights workers who are determined to look after their own. IFC’s goals are to salvage the lives of as many Iraqis as possible, and to end the occupation and sectarian fighting. ... read full story / add a comment |
