its funny to have a headline on the newswire with Mc Dowell's Name on it, but current
Department of Justice head Mr Brian Lenihan TD failed to separate himself adequately
from the racist policy of his former government cohort ;and has garnered international
and national criticism on his proposed implementation of the 2006 'Immigration,
Residence and Protection Bill'

in fact its only an Immigration Bill because Mr Mc Dowell was forced to implement
International protection treaties on October 10th 2006. To date only one woman has
been granted a subsidiary protection order for FGM. ... read full story / add a comment

Racists desecrated 148 graves in the Muslim section of a military cemetery in Lille France, last Sunday daubing anti-Islamic graffiti and swastikas on graves , and hanging a pig's head on one of the headstones. The widely condemned hate crime comes at a time of tension for Muslim communities throughout Europe , occurring in the same week that Deniz Ozgur Uzun ,a 17-year-old Muslim high school student , was beaten to death by Islamophobes in Copenhagen . ... read full story / add a comment

President Sarkozy who in asking for the release of Ms Ingrid Betancourt from captivity
made a remark that shows his incredible lack of diplomacy and was probably why his
spouse led the march for her release in Paris today. He said that if she dies then FARC
will be 'responsible for the death of a woman'. Many government leaders are so responsible,
but to use the media to allow such a statement travel like a virus through our world
was badly judged and dangerous. Ms Betancourt has endured six years of separation from
her mother and her children and is unwell, being on hunger strike.

Everyone wants Ingrid freed.

The Rustbelt Radical
The Rustbelt Radical is a personal blog. It is revolutionary, socialist and internationalist. It comes straight from the ravaged middle of the post-industrial American Midwest. Topics might include politics, work, history, culture, war, a bit of theory, some sex, some drugs, some music and frequent tubthumping for the free association of producers.

Deniz Ozgur Uzun a 17-year-old Turkish high school student was beaten to death last week by racists in the Amager district of Copenhagen . Muslim community leaders believe the racist attack is directly linked to an Islamophobic atmosphere in the Scandinavian country fanned by the recent reprinting of the prophet cartoon .

The British Army faces new allegations of torture and abuse over the arrest and detention of an elderly Iraqi Muslim and his family last year. Jabbir Hmoud Kammash, 70 , claims that twenty soldiers raided his home in the Al-Gzaizah district of the city , terrifying his family ,destroying furniture and stealing household money .The Muslim elder was hooded and beaten with rifle butts and driven with his son to the British military base in Basra airport where he was subjected to further abuse and interrogation while still hooded. Mr Kammash and his sons ,who are still recovering from injuries inflicted on them , say they intend to take legal action against the British government for the abuse they suffered.

On the evening of the second of April there was a celebration of International
Women's Day at the Unitarian Church at St Stephen's Green. Bertie had Just
quit and as Jennifer Johnson noted there were a lot of 'drums', those of FF
beating a retreat and of FG beating a tattoo. Medbh Mc Guckian referred to the fact
that in Northern Ireland women can now buy 6,000 Euro handbags, but quality
of life had not improved at all for many. But is was not all politics, it was about
poetry and song.

Like many sophisticated freethinkers & well honed intellectually rigorous atheists or agnostics, I've gone far past the stage of being fed up with the Capitalist system obliging me to holidays on the 25th of December, Easter, 17th of March & so on all the bloody year. I want to work 28 days straight and save up my "Sabbath" days & add them on to my statutory entitlements. The PKK were included in 2002 on the list of terrorist organisations held by the EU. It's a long list. But the decision has now been anulled by the second highest judicial bench in Europe which sits in Luxembourg.

There are complex (as always) reasons for this. Without going into it too much, & thus distracting you from reading the judgement in its entirety, I'd just mention the non-desirability of seeing a post-US occupied Iraq divided between Turkey and Iran after the former argued they were containing the PKK terrorists. ... read full story / add a comment

People who have spent long periods on neuroleptic medication are familiar with the deadening effect it produces, its effect on physical well-being. It requires the utmost in personal resources to maintain any kind of fulfilling or enjoyable lifestyle while taking these drugs. Proof of this is the widespread issue of non-compliance where mental patients are concerned. Plainly the main reason why mental patients resist taking prescribed medication is that all of the medications including newer ones like Risperdal are unpleasant and debilitating. ... read full story / add a comment
