"gloriajw' has written a very good article which breaks down many of the causes of alienation of women in technical groups and online communities. It was forwarded to the IMC Global women's list with the following comment:

"Generally a subject covered much too little in indymedia communities, on
our websites and in communication we are having with each other.

With the email from Melbourne today that another collective had decided
to shut down, also because they couldn't handle spam on the site, this
seems even more interesting. The article is about gender, and at the
same time about communication, and the anonymity of open publishing."

This morning with the arrest by the Spanish Guardia Civil of 6 individuals in Barcelona the far-left terrorist organisation "Grapo" who were responsible for 75 murders has ended.

Sympathisers with terrorist organisations in the Spanish state are far and few between these days, but the news might be of interest to their long-standing associates in the IRSP and INLA who often used this very website to call for solidarity and seek signatures on petitions amidst talk of "show trials" & the like.

Sadly however the people of Catalonia and the Spanish state may not look forward to a society without mindless and arbitrary violence as the terrorist organisation ETA which broke its ceasefire with the murder of 2 Ecuadorians at New Year has declared a return to war "on all fronts"

It is unbelievable to hear the news about a 12 years old girl, brutally killed by her father because he suspected her of having a relationship with their 24-year-old male neighbour. Amina was killed on the 5th May 2007 by her own father in their house opposite the Ministry of Human Rights in Erbil, Kurdistan.

Amina’s father is said to be a PUK military official who has not been charged or even punished for killing his daughter up until now. It is said that Amina begged her father not to kill her, and that she kissed her father’s feet twice for mercy. He was cruel enough to ignore his 12 years old daughter’s innocent plea and killed her in cold blood. ... read full story / add a comment

This year, the International Labour Organization will yet again accept puppet delegations from Iran at the ILO Annual Conference. This is what the militant workers at Iran Khodro have to say about the Iranian delegation to the ILO:

We, the “Iran Khodro” workers, consider your acceptance of these individuals as “Iranian Workers’ Representatives” as neglecting the ILO Laws specially contravening conventions of 98 & 87.

We, “Iran Khodro” Workers do not consider these individuals as our rightful representatives and demand for their expulsion from the ILO meeting.

Things are getting worse for Palestinian women; its not just the Israelis they have to worry about. They are constantly under threat from Islamic Fundamentalists who are trying to impose sharia "law".
The complete article is at the url below.

Several dozen Palestinian television journalists protested Sunday in Gaza after a shadowy Islamist group threatened to decapitate female journalists who did not dress according to a strict Islamic dress code.

The protestors assembled in front of the office of President Mahmoud Abbas to demand protection after the threat made by the Swords of Islamic Truth group.

Over the weekend, 14 US troops died in Iraq. Since the start of the year, US troops numbers through Shannon have increased. Yet despite efforts from elements in the broad anti-war movement, the recent general election saw little or not reference to Ireland's role in a conflict that has cost the lives of over 70,000 Iraqi civilians according to Iraq Body Count.

Lebanon might have caught readers attention again in the last ten days. An awful lot has happened since the Valentine Weekend 2005 murder of "Mr Lebanon" Rafik Hariri, an event of such importance that it prompted a series of 9 new stories with constant ongoing analysis of one of the pivotal states as preparation for any geopolitical strategic understanding.

Lebanon returned to our telly screens as a long standing refugee enclave of Palestinians was targetted by the Lebanese army amidst calls to "take out the terrorists" who apparantly use Lebanon to attack Western interests. Tonight the UN security council has voted to bring the murder (or magnicide if you will) of Hariri to the International tribunal in The Hague.
