"A new criminal justice bill is currently being pushed through the Dáil by the Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell. There are a WHOLE raft of measures in the legislation that have the potential to seriously infringe on civil liberties. However, there are two specific areas we feel need to be highlighted, in that they are targeted at young people. These are the introduction of On The Spot Fines and Anti Social Behaviour orders. It is our belief that the introduction of these provisions will dramatically impact on Irish people's civil liberties. That's why we've joined forces with the Union of Students in Ireland and are launching an online petition opposing the introduction of On The Spot Fines and Anti Social Behaviour Orders in Ireland." Please go to http://www.hotpress.com/petitions/ to sign the petition. ... read full story / add a comment

"MEXICO; MAY 1, 2005: For U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, her photo-op tour of Latin American nations last week was supposed to mark a comeback for flailing U.S. policy in the region. As Berlin moves through change after change, as the most symbolic city of Europe's peace.
