It seems very likely that the US, backed by UK,France etc, is going to attack Syria very soon. Regardless of what we think of the Assad regime and its crimes we should oppose this intervention which will only make matters worse and is only designed to further imperialist interests. As we don’t know exactly when this will occur the Irish Anti-War Movement is calling a protest at the Spire for 6pm ON THE DAY OF THE ATTACK or THE NEXT DAY IF THE ATTACK IS AT NIGHT. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Internment. No charge. No trial. This has been the reality in Ireland, for every generation, North and South, since the foundation of both scum states. Despite a nominal Peace Process, internment without charge or trial, still exists in one form or another today in both parts of Ireland. Clearly therefore, there is something very dysfunctional in the neo-colonial political arrangement. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Today the mainstream media are claiming that there has been a chemical attack by the Syrian government near Damascus even whilst an UN inspection team arrives. The reports have been conflicting with the initial reports claiming 280 victims and then later up-ing it to over 1,300 killed. However, the claims are predominantly coming from the so called Free Syrian Army who are backed and funded by some of the despotic Gulf States, as well as Saudi Arabia and by the Western powers principally France, USA and UK. This same group is made up mercenaries of all kinds including members of Al Qaeda who want to turn the country backwards and bring in Sharia Law and just back in May 2013 the UN accused the Syrian rebels of using chemical weapons. What is most telling though is that it makes absolutely no sense for the Syrian government to do this. In recent months they have retaken areas held by rebels and seem to have repelled several attack campaigns in the past two year. And France in particular as well as the other powers have been consistently in the last year being trying to throw the mud of chemical weapons and then chemical weapon attacks in a clear effort to force public opinion to back no-fly zones and from there total demolition of the country and invasion followed later by a pliant regime. The end game is to clear the way for an attack on Iran which the crazies have been pushing hard for many years. read full story / add a comment ![]()

On August 24, over 7000 activists marched, in 41 cities and 17 countries, for our fellow Earthlings. The event called people to take their blindfolds off to animal suffering and the human toll dairy and meat has. In Grafton street 40 people stood blindfolded near McDonald and Bernardo's Fur. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Few industrial accidents can match the severity of the Seveso disaster of 1976. Despite the resulting long-term health problems and environmental risks, however, the accidental release of gases including TCDD -- a form of cancer-causing dioxin -- into a residential area of Italy had some positive legacies, including the creation of tighter environmental regulations and health protections throughout Europe. read full story / add a comment

5 years into this economic recession, at last the legal profession may be finally drawing a definitive line in the sand, in other words a precedent, that will stop the strategic defaulters playing games with the banks and debtors to whom they owe money, and make them face up to their responsibilities in Ireland, rather than shirking their responsibilities to meet their debts in their own country where they have lived so lavishly during the 'good times'. These Mr and Mrs Bankrupts like the Mr and Mrs Tax Exiles need to step up to the plate. Honour is called for not cowardice. Up to now in the absence of the Insolvency legislation, there may have been some justification but not now. read full story / add a comment

Of course I am aware of the human rights violations by the Morsi regime, but since I hold the opinion, that human rights have to respected under all circumstances, regardless of the persons involved or the comitted/accused crime, I have written this letter to General al Sisi, who by the way came into power in Egypt by a military coup. read full story / add a comment

If Bradley Manning showed the U.S. Military’s indifference to arbitrary slaughter by U.S. personnel well that is how the Old Testament lays out the ground rules in the Middle East—it is NOT the Pentagon’s fault the New Testament had some other ideals that claimed all of mankind was part of God’s family. Still it seems apparent why there was so much adamant secrecy about sharing God’s State secrets—since it seems kind of obvious Eden was not the psychological paradise it was purported to have been by the propaganda powers-that-be back then. More importantly despite there being religious precepts too often leaders of countries do whatever they want irrespective of what legal or moral codes should apply—and this goes for both Israel and the United States—so maybe the the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is that leaders can act like arbitrary Gods while expecting their subjects to follow rules? read full story / add a comment ![]()

The Alliance for Animal Rights group AFAR wish to condemn the IGB who are fully responsible for the serious injuring of Four healthy Greyhounds who were made race at the ETS Derby in Shelbourne Park last week. All of these dogs were badly injured at the track, including being ‘KOd’ knocked over and sustaining bone breakages including broken legs and hocks. We surmise some of these dogs risk being killed as their racing careers are most likely ended and they are possibly only of use as stud dogs. read full story / add a comment ![]()
