Several hundred people took part in "A Spectacle Of Defiance And Hope" in Dublin on the night of Friday 10th December to protest the way the government have cut funding to vital community services. Janice Feighery a co-ordinator at an after school computer program for young people said “Community programmes are being devastated by the cuts. Our work with young people is strangled by lack of funds." The spectacle draws to a close the week of protests against the austerity budget.

The union and labor leaders should be leading the battle to defend the right of all of us to know what is in the cables of capitalism. But they are so much part of the system they will not. While continuing to point this out and to build opposition forces to these union leaders in the workplaces and unions we, the left and all activist and anti capitalist forces, have to act ourselves. We should join Anonymous which is coordinating the defense of wikileaks and its funding base. Boycott Mastercard, Visa, Amazon etc. At the same time we should seek to give more of a democratic structure to Anonymous so it can become a more effective and democratic and decision making body, with a leadership which is collective and has depth, and so is better able to replace itself when capitalism can arrest or otherwise remove more of its leaders. read full story / add a comment

It's cold comfort that yesterday's inhuman budget was the last sting of a vicious, dying government, chilling to realise it was allowed to flourish and pass by the broad mass of the Irish people standing idly by and not engaging in mass protest.? Yesterdays proceedings outside the Dáil were mild, ultra-mild and weak when compared to the mass protests in Greece and France and the fact that the EU/ECB/IMF attacks on our poor, vulnerable, working classes and middle classes, through their willing government catspaws, are far more severe here than the aforementioned countries.? read full story / add a comment

The German Ambassador Pauls described Ireland as a “coarse” country infected by pure unadulterated greed and avarice. He didn't mince his word either, describing examples of a small country with an over bearing elite of overpaid Government ministers, junior ministers and a gravy train of political life, living the high on the pigs back, oblivious to the reality of deprived estates of people of no property, the length and breath of Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Capitalism is in never ending conflict with the working class and with its capitalist rivals. This is the objective reality and why it has to have secret diplomacy. It cannot be honest or its system would spin out of control. The wikileaks have dealt an important blow to capitalism's needs in this area. As a result capitalism is going after wikileaks in a very serious way. This assault has to be opposed. Let us build a Hands Off Wikileaks campaign. See more proposals below. read full story / add a comment

In bitter, thick fog resembling the miasma hanging over the economic abyss that is now Ireland, some 300-400 protesters, yesterday, marched from the Cathedral through Eglington St and Shop Street to the Spanish Arch plaza voicing their anger, contempt and sense of betrayal for a government that has spectacularly lost the trust of its people but like a stinging, dying wasp is still hell-bent on forcing through a budget of unprecedented savagery that saddles and cripples the Irish people with the private gambling debts of rogue banks and a millstone "bailout" of usurious, ruinous interest rates from the IMF and EU. read full story / add a comment
