Recently appointed Judge Faughnan presided over this month's district court session at Belmullet. Two Shell to Sea related cases were finalised resulting in one campaigner avoiding conviction by receiving the benefit of the probation act and another - local Shell to Sea spokesperson Terence Conway - being convicted and fined E200.
When the Belmullet District court session opened on Wednesday morning there were seven campaigners due to appear in court on charges arising from the ongoing imposition of, and protest against, the Shell Corrib gas project in North West Mayo.
Shell Santa also made an appearance at court bearing gives of alcohol but the Gardaí didn't seem too happy for him to visit them in such a public setting. read full story / add a comment

Statement from Release Martin Corey Campaign

The Spotlight Programme screened on Tuesday, November 12 was, in part, concerned with the case of political internee Martin Corey. Ciaran Tracey, Journalist for the BBC, visited Martin in Maghaberry prison, Co Antrim and conducted an interview with him. During the course of this interview Martin stated that he believed that he was in jail because he refused to become an informer, he stated he had been approached prior to his incarceration and told that he should co-operate with the security forces or else he would find himself in jail. read full story / add a comment

Judge Denis McLoughlin presided over yesterdays monthly sitting of Belmullet district court. Amongst the defendants were 5 people up on charges because of their opposition to the Shell Corrib gas project. Of the Shell related cases only one was heard, resulting in John Monaghan being convicted and fined E350 and disqualified from driving for one year. Of particular note in this case was that some of the evidence that was used to convict Mr Monaghan, came from Sgt Dermot Butler, who was one of the named Gardaí that a former Shell subcontractor claimed helped to transfer the alcohol that he delivered to Belmullet Garda station on behalf of Shell. Also of particular note was that one IRMS security guard also confirmed that IRMS had a practice of profiling certain members of the local community and other campaigners.

On the 9th of July 2012, Judge Treacy ordered Martin Corey’s immediate release from political internment without trial, stating his human rights had been violated in British Occupied Ireland. This was overruled by the unelected English Viceroyal who ]ordered the internment of the Irishman, against whom there is no evidence of wrongdoing, that could possibly lead to charges in a court of law. read full story / add a comment

I couldn't help but notice, the difference in one of Ayman Al Gilmore's old parties alternative budget and his government's budget today. He is obviously a me feiner, riding the Irish working class and feeding off old comrades wounds but then that's the story of Ireland, isn't it? The Labour party have no shame have they? They are an obvious gang of fatbarsturds, who people are stupid enough to vote for and are prime meat for a revolution! Anyway here's a summary: read full story / add a comment

Events are taking place worldwide on Saturday October 12th against MONSANTO who are taking over our food and spreading GM crops everywhere. Joan burton minister for social protection has set up what has been called a new carrot and stick approach to the unemployed masses of ireland.

The carrot is not suffficient ,and either is the stick for that matter, the carrot being jobbridge, and the stick being that social welfare can withhold your welfare for up to 63 days, and having the powers to reduce your social welfare payment..As far as i can see there is no new thinking on how to approach those who have lost their jobs,or are not adequately qualified or experienced to take up jobs..
Jobridge has been uncovered as a scam,to bolster up employers staff without expense, and can re-hire more job bridge workers as they please.Where is the incentive to employ people, take on paid work when job bridge is in the way of that. What employer is going to pay people to work when job bridge is for free?
It is clear the government have not thought this through properly for whatever reason.

Below is an article on this issue by Tom Boland.
