#OccupyEyreSquare: Public Awareness Day, today 1pm Come along to hear some key speakers on issues relating to the economic MESS we are all facing! This will be a day of solidarity with Occupy protests taking place in over 1600 cities worldwide. Come and show your support and have YOUR voice heard. Live music, refreshments and fun to be had as well! Occupy Galway is part of the international movement against austerity measures imposed on ordinary people around the world. We are all part of the 99% who, so far, have been subject to economic inequality and social injustice from the 1% who control the world's resources. We, the 99% demand: 1 - The removal of the IMF and ECB from all Irish financial affairs; 2 - That the national debt imposed on Irish people from the bank bailouts be lifted; 3 - The return of Irish resources (gas, oil, forestry) to the people of Ireland; 4 - Real particpatory democracy. THIS IS NOT A RECESSION, IT'S A ROBBERY!!! See you there! read full story / add a comment

Higgins the big winner after FG's Mitchell pulls out
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/1017/1....html
YOUTH FORUM: LABOUR CANDIDATE Michael D Higgins comfortably won over an audience of young people at a presidential youth forum in Dublin at the weekend, to which all seven candidates had been invited, but just five attended.
While Dana “just declined the invitation” to the SpunOut.ie Youth Rising forum, Fine Gael candidate Gay Mitchell “cancelled at the last minute”, according to organiser Ruairí McKiernan.
“I’m pretty disappointed in him. This was organised three months ago and last night he said he had to go to Cork instead. I think it says a lot about his attitude.”

John Pilger writes about what Assange faces in the upcoming court case. The High Court in London will soon to decide whether Julian Assange is to be extradited to Sweden to face allegations of sexual misconduct. At the appeal hearing in July, Ben Emmerson QC, counsel for the defence, described the whole saga as "crazy". Sweden's chief prosecutor had dismissed the original arrest warrant, saying there was no case for Assange to answer. Both the women involved said they had consented to have sex. On the facts alleged, no crime would have been committed in Britain. read full story / add a comment

Sirte has become the Guernica of the 21st century. The bombing it has been subjected to surpasses Gaza and even Fallujah for its criminal targeting of civilian homes, hospitals, utilities such as water, gas and oil, etc. And yet, while the people of Sirte face extermination by gangs who have already lynched and ethnically cleansed thousands of Black people, the Irish Left maintains a cold silence towards this agony. Why? read full story / add a comment |
