2.30 meet at CHQ (previously called Stack A) in Dublins Docklands, walk along a proposed urban greenway for Dublin city, along the Royal Canal, Botanic Gardens, visit urban food production zones, mountjoy linear park, Blessington basin, city green zones, finishing in Dublin Castle 7pm. This is an EASA event and is open to all the public, we will walk and talk, imagine what Dublin as an eco city might look like and think about strategies to turn these BOLD eco ideas into tomorrows realities... Amidst the fog of war, and lack of media on the ground, it's anybody's guess as to what is actually going on there at the minute. It is claimed that Russian aircraft attacked military and other targets in Georgia (Russia denies any such attacks happened, and Georgia claims to have shot down some of the aircraft) and a large number of Russian tanks has crossed the border. Ógra Shinn Féin National Organiser Barry McColgan has urged young republicans to mobilise for the annual Hunger Strike march, on Sunday 17th August and which is due to be held in Derry for the first time in 27 years. Animal Rights groups were tipped off that the Hunting Association of Ireland was going to be hosting a breakfast seminar this morning to unite groups and companies which have been the subject of protest for their treatment of animals. Lidl appears to have 'lowered the bar' by urging shoppers to 'don't spend your cash on trash' by shopping in Tesco. The software used to run the Indymedia website has now been upgraded with the latest release (Oscailt 3.2) which now allows users to post stories and comments with multiple embedded videos and audios. Previously you could only have embedded one video per story or comment. The embedded video was also recently upgraded a few months back to allow for embedded Politube.org video which are preferrable to YouTube videos because of licensing and the fact that they support independent media outlets and activists and are a non profit organisation. read full story / add a comment

Anti Globalisation protestors took to Government buildings to highlight the WTO impact on Irish farming, workers and human rights and fisheries. Each group was divided and coralled into three different sections in a state move to institutionalise supposed differences in those who articulated a NON in the Lisbon Treaty referendum. read full story / add a comment

Dublin youth activists united in protest today outside the European Union house to urge a No! vote in this Thursday’s Lisbon Treaty referendum. The protest, which included an open mic and street theatre, was jointly organised by Ógra Shinn Féin, and the Connolly Youth Movement, with members of the IPSC and Anarchist activists also in attendance. Following a very imaginative and visible protest which had Brian Cowen and Charlie McCreevy present, there was an extensive canvass of the thronged Grafton Street asking people to secure a better deal for Ireland, and vote No! read full story / add a comment

Ógra Shinn Féin publicly launched a short film ‘Drugs – A Community Struggle!’ at their youth forum on drugs last Saturday 17 May in the Teacher’s Club, Dublin . The short film outlines the youth movement’s NARC (Not Another Ravaged Community) campaign which is working to increase drug and alcohol awareness and tackle the negative effects that they have on our youth and communities. The film outlines the problems associated with drink and drugs, the underlying reasons behind these problems, and identifies solutions on how we can collectively begin to tackle the drug epidemic. The republican youth movement have uploaded the film to YouTube and Bebo in order to engage a wider audience. I submit that Its conduct and operation constitutes a gross violation of National and International Human and Civil Rights.It encourages unscrupulous applicants and professional people to lie, conceal information and give false evidence in return for financial awards.It denies it's victims their right to innocence unless proved otherwise, and hides behind a wall of absolute secrecy. The Council of Europe has called on Ireland to decriminalise abortion. This week , the Council of Europe's Committee on Equal Opportunities issued a report saying all member states should guarantee women the right to a safe termination of pregnancy. The report states quite clearly: “the Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men considers that a ban on abortions does not result in fewer abortions, but mainly leads to clandestine abortions, which are more traumatic and more dangerous.” Some people estimate that the number of Irish women who travel to England every year is about 7,000. Since some women obviously use false British addresses, or disguise their origins in other ways, the true figure can never be known. read full story / add a comment
