Old Dublin Society Cumann le Seandacht Átha Cliath Email: [email protected] - Booking is strongly recommended: [email protected] or telephone: 01 6744999 Old Dublin Society Press Release As part of the National Heritage Week, the Old Dublin Society will present a talk on Watson’s Nursery 1884-1967: From Clontarf to Killiney on Wednesday, August 23rd in Dublin City’s Library & Archive, 138 Pearse Street, Dublin 2 at 6pm. The talk will be given by Mrs. Bernardine Ruddy, President of the Old Dublin Society - the premier history society for Dublin and Dubliners established in 1934. Booking is strongly recommended: [email protected] or telephone: 01 6744999 Till its closure in 1967, Watson’s Nursery had a high profile in the world of horticulture. It was synonymous with quality and reliability with shops in Nassau Street and enjoyed an extensive mail order business at home and abroad. The move from Clontarf was due to being landlocked by the railway line and open sea. And so the move to Killiney was accomplished by 1920 and enabled them to enlarge their business. Now the Watson family name is perpetuated in the naming of the roads and avenues in Killiney, Co. Dublin forever more. The Old Dublin Society holds Spring and Autumn public talks on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays in Pearse Street Library & Archive at 6pm.
