PIGS EXPLOITED FOR ENTERTANMENT WITH NAAS County Council SUPPORT. While Belfast, Cork and Fingal are to be admired for moving with the times by banning the use of animals in roadside shows, Naas on the other hand is showing its retrospect attitude by staging a Pot –bellied pig race in April.It is to coincide with Punchestown Horse Racing to keep the punters in Naas after the horse racing has ended. Its mostly being promoted by the Drinking establishments and restaurants in the town. Pigs are highly intelligent animals and do not deserve to be degraded, frightened or used as part of what is an event that is basically centered around club and pub participation, basically its a beer festival. Defenceless animals should not be part of this type of atmosphere. This also sends out a message to children that animals are mere toys to be used by humans. read full story / add a comment

MAOR (an Irish word for ‘guardian’ or ‘steward’) are a group of individuals based in the North West who came together in 2006 in solidarity with the Shell to Sea campaign and in response to the issues surrounding gas and oil exploration off the Donegal coast. The upcoming MAOR Energy Forum Fortnight attempts to be a tool to raise awareness of and generate discussion on ownership and management of Ireland’s natural resources. MAOR encourages everyone to take part in this energising programme of films, workshops, media discussions and a Citizen’s Forum. All participation in the MAOR Energy Forum Fortnight will be highly valued as MAOR will be compiling all the thoughts shared throughout the events for use in council and government consultation. Normally, mayors and deputy mayors sing from the same hymnsheet but a note of disharmony has emerged in Sligo between Fianna Fail Mayor Jonathan McGoldrick and his deputy, Independant Socialist Cllr.
