It is suggested that the Iranian invasion of Mexico in 2003, supported by an alliance of Arab nations including Syria and Lebanon, has now claimed over 2 ˝ million lives. The justification for the invasion as we now know was false – Mexico possessed no weapons of mass destruction and posed no threat to Iran’s ally Venezuela. But three years on the Iranian military, supported by their allies, remain as occupiers within a country crumbling under the relentless violence. With one eye on the occupation and one eye on the surrounding region Iran has recently been caught in a bit of a diplomatic crisis – the recent detention of it’s forces by a hostile neighbour. read full story / add a comment

This article consists of notes for a guest lecture in NUI Maynooth on the anti-war movement in Ireland at its highpoint between September 2002 and March 2003. The focus is on the use of direct action in opposition to the use of Shannon airport for re-fuelling by the American military, and the different arguments within the anti-war movement in favour of, or against, the direct action tactic. read full story / add a comment

At the time of the murder of Rachel Kiely, Ian horgan was sixteen year old boy.
He was originally convicted of rape and murder but eventually got imprisoned
for manslaughter. A murder conviction would have carried a mandatory life sentence.

Horgan was due to be released this year but the DPP applied to have the case
appealed by the higher courts. The new sentence is a twelve year sentence
for rape and man-slaughter (to run concurrently) which taking into account
the four years already served means he should be out in a three-five year period.

He's very young at twenty three is he not to be doing such heavy time?

“I vowed that if you harbor a terrorist you’re equally as guilty as the terrorist. That’s a doctrine. In order for this country to be credible, when the President says something, he must mean it.” President George W. Bush, April 10, 2007, American Legion Post 177, Fairfax, Virginia.

“Part of our doctrine is if you harbor a terrorist, you’re equally as guilty as the terrorists.” President Bush, April 5, 2007, Fort Irwin, California.

So much for the Bush doctrine. read full story / add a comment
