Ludicrous assumptions are many but perhaps the most absurd is the assumption that those who steal the greater percentage of available wealth and continue to implement economic strategies designed to enslave are (somehow) safe and secure. From the Pacific islands to the pitch battles in Mainland China, exploited people of the world are retaliating against injustice. read full story / add a comment

Monica Roa from Women's Link Worldwide addressed the Safe and Legal Forum In
Dublin last evening, as part of a week of Prochoice events organised by IFPA and
safe and Legal. She made Legal History in Columbia by challenging the abortion
laws as a human rights issue. The campaign by Women's Link Worldwide was called
the Laicia Campaign. And the talk was very interesting. Monica showed a film of the campaign from start to finish, including the agit-prop, media coverage and the day of the Judgement. The documentary was short and in Spainish with acompanying English Subtitles. read full story / add a comment

Last friday's events in Rossport were a clear example of the brutality of the state; non-violent protesters were viciously assaulted with fists, boots and batons. It is important to remember however, that these events are part of the same logic that saw five men imprisoned for 92 days last year for refusing to allow Shell to construct a dangerous pipeline through their land. read full story / add a comment

The indigenous people of Rossport are not the only threatened by oil and gas exploration. In March 2006, the US Senate passed a measure in the budget bill that opened the Artic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling - as the region suffers from some of the worst oil spills in its history from the pipelines to the existing Prudhoe Bay facilities. http://www.freepress.org/departments/display/3/2006/1868 One of the Indian peoples threatened by this invasive development are the Gwich'in, whose Alaskan settlements are over 20,000 years old and whose lives are centred around the now-threatened Porcupine Caribou. read full story / add a comment
