The text of Condoleeza Rice and Gutierrez's letter to Jack Straw (while he was acting president of the EU) is apparently written in unusually strong language for a diplomatic missive. It's published in full on The Register along with a brief commentary. read full story / add a comment

In an age of spin and the sound-bite no-one is listening. Have we lost the capacity to talk and to listen? Are we all just parrots programmed by mass media which considerably undervalue the individual? Is democracy just a clash of stereotypes? read full story / add a comment

…from The Times (UK): “Colonel Barry Johnson, the United States military spokesman in Baghdad, said the US military is reviewing the video ‘to see if an investigation is warranted and whether to open one’. Colonel Johnson, added: ‘They [the US military] are assessing it to determine if there is any evidence that warrants an investigation. The first indication I had of this case was some days ago.’ Foreign contractors are required to obey the same rules as the military in warning civilian motorists not to approach convoys by waving them away and firing warning shots. Part of the video footage appears to show a civilian car accelerating towards the convoy vehicle.” read full story / add a comment

Conference on EU Services Directive (December 6, Dublin) I am posting this on Indymedia because I am opposed to The EU Services Directive - not as a supporter of Proinsias De Rossa. In light of the Irish Ferries developments this conference is indeed timely. However the time thats its being held at will prevent many from attending. If you are a genuine activist and have disagreements past or present with Labour then please do not derail this event listing by raising off topic subjecs, the trolls will do that anyway. Discuss the Directive and attend the conference if you can and suggest concrete ways in which ordinary trade unionists can oppose the neo liberals. pat c ******************************* Labour MEP Proinsias De Rossa is holding a conference on the proposed EU Services Directive on the morning of Tuesday, 6th December, 9am - 1pm, at the European Parliament offices at Molesworth St. Dublin 2. read full story / add a comment

Subject: Fw: Fw:eva Eva was found one morning by a girl in her back garden in Ballinasloe, County Galway. This girl Rachel already had some rescued Greyhounds and poor Eva (as we named her) was badly injured and infected. She was brought to a Vet who said that the injuries to her ears were caused by Battery Acid or burning, as the hair around her ears was also synged. Her ears were septic , of a texture like charred fabric and one was burned right through with a gaping hole. The bluish ink from Greyhound Industry tatoos was apparent on the bits of her ear that were still hanging in tatters. Her left front leg had a large chunk of skin missing, it cannot be stitched and requires constant changing of dressings. Her ears were full of pus and she screeches if she thinks she is going to be lifted. read full story / add a comment
