The train taking 12 Castor caskets of nuclear waste to Gorleben in north Germany left Valognes, northern France, at 9.05 pm. Saturday.
It consists of two diesel locomotives (green), two passenger carriages, 12 Castor waggons, another passenger carriage, another diesel locomotive (green). read full story / add a comment

There will be an Anti-War meeting at 6pm on Thu 11th in the Larmor Theatre on the concourse.
The speakers will be Richard Boyd Barrett (Irish Anti-War Movement & SWP), Cllr. Daniel Callanan
(Sinn Féin), Cllr. Catherine Connolly (Labour) and Brendan Flynn (Soc & Pol Lecturer).
There will be information about the Anti-War protest in Shannon Airport on Sat 13th Nov. available
and seats can be booked for the bus from NUIG which is travelling.

The Irish Anti War Movement is re-launching the "Troops Out of Shannon" campaign and this meeting
is to support that campaign and mobilise people from Galway to get involved in the Anti-War movement. read full story / add a comment

"The aim of the Review is to present in a permanent form some of the thinking that has been going on in the Feasta network since the previous one appeared" says John Jopling, who edited it with Richard Douthwaite. On Monday 25th October, Ireland’s first contemporary cob house was destroyed in a fire. The house was being built by Rob and Emma at The Hollies Centre for Practical Sustainability. Arson is suspected, and Gardaí at Ballineen are conducting an investigation. read full story / add a comment

The Labour Party and the Green Party have expressed regret and disappointment at the re-election of President Bush.

However Sinn Féin MEP Ms Bairbre de Brún declined to specifically support the unhappiness expressed by the other parties at Mr Bush's re-election. She said that both Republicans and Democrats in the US had worked strongly in furthering the Irish peace process and that Sinn Féin was critical of US foreign policy not its leader. read full story / add a comment

Three years ago, on 5 November 2001 the Turkish state murdered four people who had acted in solidarity with prisoners on a death fast to bring an end to isolation of political prisoners within the gaols there. At that time, the struggle had already been ongoing for a year, today, as the protest enters its fifth year, 117 lives have been lost in the fight to oppose isolation in the prisons. read full story / add a comment

On This Day:

4 November. William of Orange, later king of Great Britain and Ireland, was born in 1650. An equestrian statue of him, blown up in 1929 by Republicans, remained on a scrapheap until World War II, by which time the Dublin waterpipes were in such a state that more water was escaping than getting through to people's taps. It was noticed that the genitalia of King William's horse were solid lead and weighed a stone and a half. The horse's member proved perfect for sealing pipes. read full story / add a comment
