Ethnicity, race and culture are often salient aspects of the gay community experience in Northern Ireland. While diversity adds richness to the threads of our human tapestry, queer minorities often feel vulnerable with open disclosure, and retreat from exposures they fear could leave them in jeopardy.

Through personal narrative, this event seeks to explore a broad range of culture-related topics specific to the experience of lesbians and gays within ethnic minority and queer populations.

Refreshments provided. All welcome. read full story / add a comment

Paul Foot, who died last weekend, was one of the greatest socialist writers and orators of his generation, who inspired thousands of activists from the time he became a socialist in the early 1960s until the last week of his life. He was also a celebrated campaigning journalist, who supported workers in struggle and took up cases of wrongful imprisonment, bringing about the resignation of a Tory home secretary and helping to free many innocent people from jail.

Here are a few links to obituaries and appreciations of Paul.

I suppose the only surprise was that those two nice middle-class ladies from Dublin (aka the IRA's spokespersons in Strasbourg) didn't wait until they took their seats before they started Israel-baiting.

Mary Lou McDonald was only behaving according to type but you might have hoped the (Occupied?) Six Counties rep would have had just a flicker of conscience before releasing a statement attacking Israel's "apartheid wall". read full story / add a comment
