THE FOLLOWING debate took place in the Dail (20/11/02), between Joe Higgins, Socialist Party TD, and the Minister for Justice, Eqaulity & Law Reform, Michael McDowell (PDs). The debate was concerned with the proposed 'Government Estimates' cuts, but in typical fashion, the Minister avoided the questions and proceeded to hurl abuse at Deputy Higgins. The Minister also shows his lack of understanding of the differences between genuine Marxism and Stalinism. read full story / add a comment

I've heard that there's going to be a Major budget day protest in Dublin on the day of the budget this Wednesday week, December 4th in protest at the various cutbacks that have already been announced in the book of estimates and further cutbacks that will be announced on budget day itself (i.e. Cutbacks in health, housing, schools, transport and the abolition of the 1st time buyer's grant amongst others). Apparently they're going to assemble at the Central Bank, Dame Street and march to the Dail on Kildare Street. Does anybody know what time this is all starting at and who's organising it? read full story / add a comment

The killing of UN co-director of operation in Jenin refugee camp, a tragic event, is no surprise. The Israeli military has shown that at the highest levels of its military apparatus, they are willing to use UN space as a base of operation and fire upon UN workers. If the Israeli military is going to be stopped from expanding their targets of international civilians and/or killing/expelling Palestinians at a faster pace, we must double our efforts sooner, rather than later. read full story / add a comment
