The research found that foods which are high in fat and sugar can cause significant changes in brain biochemistry similar to those from drugs such as heroin and cocaine. Once hooked, the researchers say, many people find it almost impossible to switch back to a healthy diet, often leading to obesity. read full story / add a comment

Protestors today disrupted the launch of a new transport system in Belfast, which was being hosted by John Spellar MP, the NIO Minister for Human Rights, Equality and Criminal Justice who sat on the Army Board which decreed that the two Scots Guards convicted of the murder of north Belfast teenager Peter McBride should be allowed to remain in the army. Members of the Pat Finucane Centre held up banners demanding justice for Peter McBride as Spellar attempted to launch a new Global Positioning System for Belfast buses. Speaking afterwards, PFC spokesperson Shane O'Curry said: "If this man thinks he can walk in here and tackle issues of human rights, equality and criminal justice while ignoring the abuse of those issues that he has been involved in, then he needs a global positioning system of his own. This man is not suitable to hold any such office, and should be removed immediately." read full story / add a comment

In yesterdays Sunday Tribune there was an interesting piece om the former Ugandan dictator Idi Amins links to Israel. Naturally when one thinks of Idi Amin and Israel one's mind goes back to Entebbe in 1976. In fact Amin's coup was backed by the Brits and the Israelis, each of who had their own agendas. Israels in particular was to undermine the Sudanese regieme which was friendly with Egypt by backing the Christian rebels in the South of the country, a conflict that persists to this day. read full story / add a comment
