It is like a big big jigsaw, with many many players and many many pieces.

Below is today's front page article from Daily Ireland. I give though firstly a few lines of an article I had written a few years ago in relation to the {once termed} Belfast SWP's response to this murder. read full story / add a comment

There will be two films shown in Seomra Spraoi in 47 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin on Saturday 14th at 3pm.

We'll have the projector so there'll be plenty of room. Wear warmish clothes.

I've forgotten the title of the first film but it is about Polish prisoners during World War 2. Supposed to be very good. I'll update this when I get more details. Secondly, if there's time we'll watch the Life of Brian.

Everyone welcome. read full story / add a comment

The subversion of law and ‘order’ has been effectively and completely realised, not by revolutionary, rebel, insurgent groups and associated ideologies, but by the custodians of social order themselves. The process was essentially (d)evolutionary not revolutionary. An elementary student would have little difficulty understanding the character of the ‘New World Disorder’ and the forces that created this new social nightmare. The USA stands, in plain sight, as the most criminal, murderous, terrorist state in the world today. read full story / add a comment

The recent government announcement 5 million euro for the integration programme in 2006. This is not enough, and in any event the funding should be coming through all government departments and should include an educational element to educate people to the genetic facts. It is necessary that the government put a cultural integration scheme in place immediately, to do otherwise is to invite ghettoisation and promote the conditions which strengthen racist ideas. read full story / add a comment

Veronica McDermott is a rep for BNFL in Ireland and has had an article in the Sunday Business Post (10/12/06) and been heavily quoted in an article in the Sunday Independent (08/01/06) both of which promote nuclear power as a real option and both of which only refer to her as a public affairs consultant. this along with David McWilliams article a few weeks ago shows that there is a pro-nuclear agenda being pushed in our papers preparing the nuclear industry to pounce when energy becomes a major issue. read full story / add a comment

Irish Ferries: The significance of the December 9th mobilisations

How was it that demonstrations of over 150,000 workers could be followed almost immediately by the defeat of the Irish Ferries struggle and the demobilisation of the demonstrators?

Many saw the size of the demonstrations as by themselves representing the political mobilisation of the working class. In truth it only raised the question. The workers began by marching loyally behind the union leaderships. The issue is where they will end up.

The march demonstrated the potential power of the working class, but above all it demonstrated the continuing ability of the union bureaucracy to confine and limit that power. However, that ability of the union leadership is itself constrained by the pressure of events and dependent on the workers remaining passive.

Editors` introduction
The prospect of the G8 summit taking place in Gleneagles, Scotland, in July 2005 promised perhaps the excitement of Genoa, Seattle and the other anti-capitalist mobilizations of recent years, on UK soil. But the movement seemed to lose momuntum after the last Iraq war, and some of us wondered wether the protests would resemble more the last few Mayday demonstrations – with protesters held for hours in a police cordon designed to bore people into submission – rather than the exhiliratation and energy of the 1999 Carnival against Capital. Moreover, most of the predicted crowds were mostly expected to gather around the call by Bob Geldof to protest peacefully to “send a message” to the politicans, rather than attempt to close down the Summit. Many of us therefore stayed away. read full story / add a comment

British anti-War politics has taken an interesting turn over the change of Year.
The leader of the largest "anti-War" party has resigned his position after being exposed as a soaked up rickety wreck alcoholic.
Meanwhile the umbrella of interests in British politics which work through the "Impeach Blair" or "Stop the War" coalition have called upon a retired general to voice their concerns, and the former extreme left candidate Gorgeous George Galloway has decided to go to Big Brother. read full story / add a comment
