national / anti-capitalism / event notice Wednesday March 23, 2005 17:57 by Laurence Cox
This Gathering aims to bring activists from different sectors together to compare our experiences of "the death of partnership" and to ask what our alternatives are: "what next for grassroots activism?" No magic answers, just activists from different movements discussing where we are and what we can do. Other plenaries on gender and activism and the Grassroots Network. Lots of workshops on everything from guerrilla gardening to the G8 protests in Scotland, video showings, and social events designed to give activists a chance to meet each other, swap stories, express our anger and brainstorm on what we can do now. Grassroots Gatherings are free and open to everyone involved in or interested in grassroots, non-hierarchical activism. Good veggie food and childcare will be provided. read full story / add a comment

The US occupation has damaged Iraqi civil society and infrastructure, fuelled terrorism and was carried out in the interest of capitalists rather than the Iraqi people. American capitalism has used the occupation to suppress workers rights and steal the natural resources of the country. Before the US invaded there weren’t any Islamist terrorist groups of any note in Iraq. Now there are, thus the secular nature of Iraqi society has declined under the occupation as secular forces are squashed between the Islamists and the US forces. read full story / add a comment |
