The Progressive Democrats have been through it all, haven't they? the Ambition of the "mammy" then "granny" Harney's girth has long been measured, and recently swinging big Mickey Mc Dowell did a most uncharacteristic turn around. Will the little party of unwarrented capitalism be stopped at the next election? Do we smell blood? yes - so let's finish them off. Here's your psychological guide:- read full story / add a comment

I was surprised to find out that Germany does not have a statutory minimum wage. pc) A new German employment site shows just how bad the country's job market has become. "This pacifistic flourish might even have been forgotten if not forgiven --along with the band's misguided foray into techno with Zooropa' --had it not been for Bono's egregious and now consistent legitimizing of right-wing politicians. There was, of course, Bono's serenade of Paul Martin at the Liberal leadership convention where the shipping magnate took over Canada's top job from Jean Chretien. Then, worse yet perhaps, there was his goodwill tour' to Africa with Paul O'Neil of the Bush Administration, helping to pretty up the White House while the rest of the world was up in arms and in the streets over its illegal war on Iraq. Around this time, Bono even struck up a friendly acquaintance with the loathsome Jesse Helms. Finally, then, in what would seem to be a pretty consistent devolution, comes the friendly chat with Paul Wolfowitz, no doubt a preview of future high profile efforts to rehabilitate the image of the World Bank and the war-monger now heading it up." read full story / add a comment

No magic answers, just activists from different movements discussing where we are and what we can do. Other plenaries on gender and activism and the Grassroots Network. Lots of workshops on everything from guerrilla gardening to the G8 protests in Scotland, video showings, and social events designed to give activists a chance to meet each other, swap stories, express our anger and brainstorm on what we can do now. Grassroots Gatherings are free and open to everyone involved in or interested in grassroots, non-hierarchical activism.
