The last edition of UCC's student newspaper published a full page anti-gay rant, in its latest attempt to whip up Islamopohbia and homophobia As a gay student I feel very badly let down by the Students Union at UCC. If racist material had been widely distribted on campus, let alone an article in an SU funded paper whose sole purpose was to attack black people, there would at the very least have been an immediate statement of condemnation by the Student's Union. One of the people wanting to be Education Officer has been booted out of the election. Her name is Lorna Jennings and she was seen by many as the favourite. Everyone's been talking about it in Trinity today. According to www.tcdsu.org she was kicked out for bulk emailing the whole college. President Bush met President Chirac today...there is an urgent need to resolve disagreements and form strategies for peaceful resolutions worldwide. Within months, the citizens of Ireland review and vote on their choice for the EU constitution. Perhaps it is time to review our own...in the light of the Peace Process. Surely: our focus ought to be corrupt practices North and South but not make alleged criminality, at the last hurdle towards the conclusion of the Peace Process. The Gardai exist as do the PSNI let them seek out all illegal practices irrespective of origin and act with Due Process. Start to make poverty history in 2005; cancel the debt On the 23rd of February, Make Poverty History Ireland are launching their campaign to “mobilise citizens and policy makers in Ireland to bring about the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. The campaign is calling for urgent policy reform in the linked issues of trade, aid and debt. Make Poverty History is mobilising around key opportunities in 2005 to drive forward the struggle against poverty and injustice”.
