11.30am on Monday at the Great Southern Hotel, Cork Airport sees the start of the oral hearing where objectors get to air their views on the Environmental Protection Agency's granting of a licence for 2 Incinerators at Ringaskiddy in Cork Harbour. The general feeling among objectors is that the decision has already been made and this hearing is about going through the motions to give the illusion of democracy and consultation. Please come to the hotel to show support for the campaigners and to inject some true democracy into the proceedings This is a PUBLIC hearing so anyone can attend. Bring banners, drums, theatre, Love and Rage. It's Valentine's day after all. read full story / add a comment

It must be said that in our efforts to highlight the ongoing crisis one thing is constant –
The respect and gratitude the patients have for the nurses and doctors in A&E across the country who have continued to work for years in unhealthy and unsafe conditions and as they so rightly say enough is enough for patients and staff. It must stop now.

Patients together met with Minister Harney in November at that meeting she promised she would meet with us again in a few weeks. In light of the continued deterioration of conditions for staff and patients in A&E we now seek that meeting. We also wish to discuss any actions taken to implement our demands read full story / add a comment

In case you haven't already heard, Ward Churchill has been attacked by the American national media, and others, for an essay he wrote on September 11th a few years ago. He's received threats to his job, as well as his to his life. Most recently, swastikas were painted on his truck while it sat outside his home. good site:

It raises central elements of censorship and free speech. He is also not the only American academic under attack by right wing groups.

Apologies for the length of this, but I feel, given the serious and worsening situation in the health service that the following motion below should be forwarded as an Emergency motion re the health service emergency for Union AGMs (Annual General Meetings) and ADCs (Annual Delegate Conferences), most of which are happening around this time, so that we, the workers, who do have the clout, can really up the ante on this government to properly fund our health service, instead of wasting money on such things as exclusive golf courses, and increased military spending! Where's our priorities? read full story / add a comment

Here follows the complete text of the 43rd President of the USA "state of the Union" address to the institutions of government of the emergent democracy of the North America.

It is important and of Irish interest for several reasons, which can be summarised thusly-

the USA is an important trade partner of the EU and Ireland. We do a lot of business with them.
Most of the citizens of the USA speak a dialect of English which we can readily misunderstand.

(It is rumoured on Opus Dei websites [subscription only] that the USA has since the end of the last really really big European war been subject to a power struggle between "corporations" (who own the news and best sneaker brands and make cars) & a sinister group of hooded tattooed basque speakers known as "bonesmen".) read full story / add a comment
