SpunOut.ie a national web based youth organisation, is going to run a pilot project youth activist training programme this summer. The organisation has long held the view that younger people are often treated like 'people in waiting' rather that citizens with a right to partcipate in Irish Society. We hope that through efforts, such as this course and some other longer term projects that we are brewing up here in SpunOut.ie that we can help to facilitate younger people to get active about changing the things that bother them .We think this is really urgent at the moment due to the levels of youth unemployment and disengagement from the political or civic sphere here. We are seeking your input and suggestions for the content of our short courses. We seek input from activists young old or inbetween- details below for how you can share your ideas with us. read full story / add a comment

We regret and deplore the killings which took place as Israeli troops, in defiance of international law, boarded and assaulted ships, and wounded many and killed some of the participants in a flotilla seeking to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza (itself a morally outrageous policy) to bring humanitarian aid. We ask all people of peace to dedicate at least fifteen minutes today (Memorial Day in the US) to silent memorial for those peace activists who have been killed (and we call upon all synagogues around the world to say Kaddish for those people at their Shabbat services this coming weekend), and for prayer for the speedy recovery of all those wounded in this attack (mostly peace activists, but also the Israeli soldiers who boarded the boats with violence). read full story / add a comment

Is this attack on an Aid ship Israel's taking advantage of an erstwhile preoccupied and unfortunate American President ? Or is it just more of Israel doing what Israel does best ..taking murderous and disproportionate action against civilians to further subjugate the Palestinian people - and doing all of this under the pre configured ideation imprinted on the Israeli mind that Europe 'owes' her because of the Holocaust - and therefore whatever would be deemed unacceptable by another country is Ok for Israel ? read full story / add a comment

Jim Moody writes on the release of Iranian film maker Jafar Panahi and uses it to illustrate how international solidarity works. Rest of story at link below.

On Tuesday last (May 25), the Iranian regime bowed to growing worldwide pressure over its imprisonment of film director Jafar Panahi and released him on 200 million rials (£14,000) bail. However, he still faces serious charges brought by the regime following gigantic, militant protests over last year’s rigged presidential elections. But at least Iran’s vicious clerics were forced to let Panahi out of the vile Evin prison where he has languished alongside other political prisoners since his arrest in March. Panahi’s release is an encouragement to all those campaigning for democratic rights in Iran in solidarity with its people.... read full story / add a comment

Kicking off on Friday night with a launch party for new magazine ‘Irish Anarchist Review’ in Seomra Spraoi, Dublin’s autonomous social centre (http://www.seomraspraoi.org:8080/Plone) and finishing on Sunday with a Radical Walking Tour of Dublin, this weekend’s Dublin Anarchist Bookfair will have something for every radical with discussions and debates on a huge variety of topics likely to appeal to every radical – from those with a worked out view of how society can be improved to those who have a niggling feeling that capitalism just isn’t working and that there must be a better way of ordering society.
