Geoffrey Dawson Lane, Baron Lane AFC QC PC (July 17, 1918 – August 22, 2005) a former British Lord Chief Justice of England & Wales who presided over the Birmingham 6 appeal trial has died today at the age of 87.

He will be remembered for many reasons.
* he followed Lord Widgery.
* he had "strong views" on murder, rape and sexual morality.
* he played a part in both Birmingham 6 and Guildford 4 trials, which saw 10 people serve lengthy sentances for IRA attacks did they not commit. read full story / add a comment

hour protest commencing 10am at Dublin Castle on Saturday 03.09.05.
This protest will coincide with the Themed tour and readings
titled 'The Irish Revolution (1913-23' in Dublin Castle.

Later in the day at 1.30pm (September 3rd) a later protest will also
be held at the same venue to coincide with the O'Carolan harp recital
in Dublin Castle at 1.30 in the afternoon

There will be a Make Partition History rally in Dublin city centre on 24th September. It is a part of the Sinn Féin Cead Bliain calender of events, celebrating 100 years.
Anyone who supports the cause of Irish Freedom may attend. There will be Irish Republicans from all over Ireland converging in Dublin to make our call loud and clear. 'The Republican Party' , Fianna Fail(Some Chance) have yet to make their forst move to make Irish Freedom a reality. Sinn Fein has produced a green paper for Irish Unity. Thus being the only movement on the island of ireland advancing the cause of the IrIsh Republic. Eric Rudolph was sentenced in Atlanta today to four consecutive life sentences as well as 120 years in prison for three bombings in Atlanta and one in Birmingham, Alabama between 1996 and 1998.

Rudolph, a right wing extremist bombed the Atlanta Olympic games in 1996, killing 1 and injuring 111 with a nail bomb. Today reading from a prepared statement appeared to show remorse for the first time. read full story / add a comment

I believe that pubs and publicans are finally starting to wake up and smell the coffee; and realise that people will no longer put up with the blatant overcharging that goes on. With sales down; and fewer people going out; and for less; and for shorter times, pubs have begun to bring down their prices. In addition, many pubs have now brought in live entertainment such as bands and ballads; and not before time! For example, my local, the Kilmardinny on Lorcan Avenue in Santry, Dublin, now has ballads and live music on a Wednesday and Saturday nights; and this is starting to draw the crowds back in; and I believe that it is a similar story in other pubs the length and breath of Ireland! read full story / add a comment

All of County Louth measures 82,613 hectares.

Fires have burnt at least 134,500 hectares (337,000 acres) of Portuguese forest from July to August, more than in all of 2004, according to forestry service estimates last week.

2,700 firefighters were battling 35 fires on Sunday afternoon. Neighbouring Galicia in Spain wants to be declared a disaster area as well, as of this morning 17 fires were still burning 6 of them considered critical. In august alone 17,000 hectares have been burnt. read full story / add a comment
